June is also National Indigenous History Month.

Abrigo honours all Indigenous people, their diverse cultures, languages, histories and achievements. Abrigo's work to end gender-based violence is in solidarity with the calls for justice for missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, transgender and two-spirit people. Abrigo strives each day to create a world where women live free from all forms of violence and abuse.

Happy Pride Month!

June is Pride month and with it we celebrate and honour the history, resilience, and achievements of 2SLGBTQI+ individuals and organizations. This month is an opportunity to highlight the progress made in inclusion and acceptance, and continue that momentum. It serves as both a joyful celebration of diversity and a commemoration of the ongoing fight for equal rights.

The Grand Parade (TGP) is happening on Saturday, September 19th and you're invited to be a part of this special event. TGP is a walk around Abrigo's neighbourhood in support of the clients in this agency's dynamic Life and Hope seniors program.

It was wonderful to have a group of seven volunteers from Kensington Tours join us for a United Way Greater Toronto Day of Caring event assisting our Life and Hope seniors program.

The group helped clean up and open our patio for the season and prepare a special meal for the group's Victoria Day celebration. The highlight included a seniors fashion show and a walk down the red carpet by members of the Kensington team.

We sincerely thank all on the Kensington team for spending the morning with us and connecting and making a difference for our clients!

The warm weather has arrived just in time for the Victoria Day long weekend and with that, our office will be closed this coming Monday. We'll reopen on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Enjoy the time with your friends and loved ones!

Abrigo is pleased to share that during the six weeks of our income tax clinic ending on April 30, our agency successfully filed 812 tax returns for our clients. This was a wonderful achievement that reflects the dedication and collaboration across our entire organization.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their financial support which played a key role in making this clinic such a success. As well, a heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the clinic. Their energy, enthusiasm, and commitment made a meaningful difference in the lives of so many people we serve.

From booking appointments to welcoming clients, from intake to filing, this was truly a team effort. Our staff, students, and volunteers worked seamlessly together to support clients not only by filing their taxes, but by helping ensure they remain eligible for vital programs and benefits such as rent subsidies, CRA credits, the Canada Dental Plan, supplements, allowances, the Canada Child Benefit, the Canada Disability Benefit, and many others.

This clinic highlighted the passion and commitment we all share in serving our community. It was our pleasure to be part of such a collaborative and impactful effort!
