On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we reflect on the tragic legacy of the residential school system and the lasting impacts it continues to have on Indigenous Peoples.

At CPA Ontario, we continue to take steps in our response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. Through the CPA Ontario Foundation, we are supporting Indigenous students through our Circle of Success educational grant, designed to equip First Nations, Inuit and Métis students with the necessary knowledge and skills at key stages of their journey towards becoming a CPA.

We have also invested time in fostering relationships with Indspire, AFOA and the First Nations Financial Management Board. Through these relationships we have connected with hundreds of Indigenous youth to show how a CPA career can deliver meaningful impact within their communities.

Our CPA Ontario Indigenous Network brings together Indigenous CPAs and CPA students from across the province, providing mentorship and helping students learn from others with shared lived experiences.

We acknowledge that reconciliation is an ongoing process of establishing and maintaining respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples and we will continue to take action to advance reconciliation through learning, relationship-building and by building a more inclusive profession.

I'm not a math person. Can I still become an accountant?

It's one of the most common questions students ask when they're considering a career in accounting.

For many, the perception that accountants spend all day solving complex equations can be enough to make them second-guess whether the profession is right for them.

But is being a math expert actually a requirement?

Current CPA candidate Saihaj Dadhra shares her honest take on the role math plays in accounting and what students should really focus on when exploring the profession.

Know a student who wrote off accounting because of math? Send them this.
