Thank you to all who came to our goodbye celebration and concert for Thomas, to celebrate his tenure with us and send him off with gratitude.

The choir, along with the CAC/YAC, offered a musical send off and we had a dessert cafe to share.

Thomas’ last Sunday with us is this Sunday, May 31. We hope to see you there!

THANK YOU TO THE GREEN TEAM for all their work sharing information and resources and helping us to be more conscientious and better stewards of God’s earth. This is a joint committee of Calvin and Deer Park.

They worked especially hard for our Earth Sunday coffee hour last week, thinking of creative ways to communicate eco-justice and hopeful stories about earth’s resilience. We gathered in the Geneva Room for cake, earth and climate trivia, helpful and interesting displays, and some beautiful footage of our amazing planet. 🌎

The APRIL Food of the Month donation is CANNED FRUIT.

You can also help with donations to Calvin Presbyterian or Deer Park United with “COTH Food Bank” in the memo line or visit the website www.cothfoodbank.ca for more info. With rising food costs, the Foodbank is serving a record number of clients (approximately 1200 people per week). In order to ensure that the Foodbank can continue in future years we need the financial support of the community. On behalf of the clients, volunteers at the COTH Foodbank, thank you for your support.

We want to wish our university students a best of luck as they wrap up the school year.

Earlier this year, the Women of the Way, with support from the congregation, put care packages together for finals season.

It was particularly wonderful to see several university students at Easter: Ally, Cameron, Graham, Hannah and Thomas. The students expressed great gratitude for the care packages we sent earlier this year. Graham wrote: “It truly means a lot to know you’re all thinking of me.” It was wonderful see everyone!

WHAT’S IN A NAME? A LENTEN STUDY – MONDAYS AT NOON

The idea for this study grew out of a conversation following a sermon that Emily gave in mid January about names.

In the interest of continuing the conversation and allowing for a deeper exploration, we will gather for two more Mondays in Lent: March 16 and March 23 at noon in the Geneva Room.

Please bring along a brown bag lunch, if you like, and there will be tea and cookies to share. You can come for all three or just one. You are welcome whenever you can come along.

March 16: Names of Suffering, Names Lost and Names for Jesus

In this session, we will reflect on the link between names and suffering in the Bible. We will also be discussing the pain of names lost, such as with the unmarked graves found at Residential schools along with our own experiences of names lost to time and circumstance. We reflect on the God who always knows us each by name.
