Please remember the trans children in p***c Catholic school boards across Ontario who are treated as invisible, taught by their Catholic boards, because they are Catholic, that one can only be male or female and that it’s sin/evil to identify as trans. 😢

That professional educators in Catholic school boards choose their religion over the wellbeing of their trans students, while Ontario’s political leaders Premier FordNation, Marit Stiles, Mike Schreiner, and John Fraser (and their respective political parties) look away in choosing to maintain political support over the wellbeing of trans children, is one of the clearest examples of how Ontario treats trans persons as invisible.

One day this evil, this harm, against trans children by Ontario will come to an end. Newfoundland and Labrador as a province voted responsibly to merge Catholic boards with non-Catholic, ending the practice of public education run by “church and state.” Ontario can and must make the same choice.

(I am professionally a teacher and I am Catholic.)

Did you know that 1/3 of Ontario’s public education system is run by Catholic school boards & all those Catholic boards choose not to hire teachers who are Muslim.

How can we in Ontario claim to have an inclusive public education system if Muslim teachers are shut out of teaching in 1/3 of Ontario’s public schools because of their faith?

In almost all parts of Ontario, where one my live, there are 4 public school boards: a non-Catholic English-language board, a non-Catholic French-language board, a Catholic English-language board & a Catholic French language board.

This creates duplicity (a loss of public dollars that could have been used in the classroom) which is clear on snow days like today.

Ontario should move towards merging Catholic with non-Catholic boards so that what remains are 2 board systems: English-language boards & French-language boards.

But in Ontario, public Catholic school boards teach that married male-female families are better than married same-sex families (because the Catholic Church teaches that same-sex marriage is sin/evil).

We should stop having public Catholic school boards. They will not stop teaching beliefs like this in Ontario’s public schools that are fundamentally contrary to Ontario’s values as expressed in Ontario’s Human Rights Code.

Please be mindful that 1/3 of Ontario’s public ed system (the Catholic part) teaches effectively that same-sex love is a sin leading to an eternity of being in hell. It is unconscionable that in 2026 we allow our public ed system to teach this harmful belief to our children who are q***r as God created them.

Happy Valentine's Day! Remember, love comes in all shapes and sizes, and that includes the different ways 2SLGBTQI people love. Whether it's self-love, familial love, platonic love, or the love shared with a partner, one thing remains the same: we all deserve to love and be loved for who we are.

A statement on the announced supervision of Peel District School Board from our President Kathleen Woodcock: “Similar to the issues we’ve already highlighted around Special Education, school and classroom funding does not meet the cost of providing education for our province’s children. These decisions should always centre students, but school boards are at the point where it’s getting very difficult to do that.

As we've been saying since the Minister began his supervisions, local trustees, working with staff leadership in their boards, give communities a real voice in their schools, and when that voice is weakened, everyone loses.

Supervision should always be a last resort. When it happens, there should be a clear, publicly communicated plan outlining expectations for everyone involved, including a transparent path back to full local governance.

We remain ready to work with the government and all education partners to innovate, modernize, and strengthen Ontario’s publicly funded education system, but it is getting more and more difficult to do so with each passing week as classroom-level decisions continue to be made at Queen’s Park without local input. Students are at the heart of every decision we make, and our focus is on supporting high-quality education in every community.”
