We know youth homelessness prevention works. And with your support, we can make it a reality across the country.

Alongside our new landmark report, A Way Home Canada and the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness are releasing a budget and policy strategy outlining how Canada can meaningfully invest in youth homelessness prevention and scale proven solutions across the country. We’re calling for $170 million in federal investment over 10 years to help make this happen.

If you also think prevention should be prioritized in the fight to end homelessness, check out the proposal and add your name to endorse it: https://tinyurl.com/46dw22p3

🇨🇦 NEW LANDMARK REPORT: Solving Canada’s Homelessness Crisis Starts Here

What if we could stop homelessness before it starts? We have the evidence, the tools, and the proven approaches to make it happen—and we can build a future where no young person ever has to experience homelessness.

Today, A Way Home Canada, The Canadian Observatory on Homelessness & Making the Shift Inc. are releasing this report, bringing together the largest and most comprehensive body of Canadian research on youth homelessness prevention.

Here’s what the report explores:
🔸 Numbers & Data: What the evidence tells us about preventing youth homelessness
🔸 Cost Analysis: Why investing in prevention makes sense—for young people and our communities
🔸 Definitions & Principles: Building a shared understanding of what prevention looks like
🔸 A Scalable Prevention System: Four proven program models that can make a difference
🔸 Reconciliation, Equity & Prevention: Why equity and reconciliation must be central to prevention
🔸 How Canada Can Scale Prevention: A roadmap for turning evidence into action

Across Canada, communities are already showing what’s possible when we invest in young people, strengthen their support networks and work together to prevent homelessness before it begins. Now it’s time to build on what we know and bring these solutions to more communities across the country.

Some youth homelessness prevention services can make parents feel like outsiders. But what happens when parents are brought into the journey with care and intention?

This blog shares a mother and daughter’s experience with Family and Natural Supports (FNS)—a proven approach to preventing youth homelessness by strengthening connections and support within young people’s networks. Through their story, we see how treating parents as partners in youth homelessness prevention can make a world of difference.

The U.K. just pledged to end homelessness. We know how to do the same here in Canada.

In this new op-ed published in Policy Options, Stephen Gaetz and Melanie Redman explore how the evidence, approaches, and tools needed to end youth homelessness in Canada are already in place. Now we just need the investment and commitment to scale these solutions and end homelessness for good.

What happens when youth employment support services are paired with the Family and Natural Supports Philosophy?

With support from Employment and Social Development Canada, the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, A Way Home Canada, and Canadian Mental Health Association Kelowna came together to connect the Family and Natural Supports (FNS) philosophy with Foundry Works employment services.

The result? READY — a six-week cohort where FNS staff and employment specialists work alongside young people, helping them build the skills, confidence, and support they need to navigate work, school, and life.

It’s a great example of what’s possible when services work together, relationships are at the centre, and young people are supported by a team that believes in them.

Our young people are our future. They’re also key to ending homelessness.

We know that housing insecurity can start early. That’s why early intervention and prevention are critical.

This , it’s time to take action and make sure every young person has a place to call home.
