Ottawa wants to diversify trade while blocking access to overseas oil markets. Strathcona’s proposal to export 250,000 barrels a day exposes the cost of the northern B.C. tanker ban. It's time to crap it and let Canadian producers compete for global customers.

President Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs have driven up metal prices without delivering meaningful gains in production or employment. Since February 2025, U.S. steel prices have risen by 33.9% and aluminum prices by 58.0%, raising costs for manufacturers, automakers and construction firms. Since February 2025, American steel prices have surged 33.9% and aluminum prices 58%, with virtually no job growth to show for it. Tariffs hurt consumers and businesses alike.

The PBO projects federal debt interest costs could reach $83 billion in 2030–31. That’s money that won’t fund a single public service. Ottawa must rein in spending: today’s deficits mean a bigger bill tomorrow.
