Hospice Cape Breton Palliative care and support for patients and families across Cape Breton County. Making a difference when it matters most.

The Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County supports people living with life-limiting illness and the families who love them. We run Hospice Cape Breton, our residence, which opened in March 2022, and support the An Cala Palliative unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. We also fund programs across the county, including music therapy, equipment, family financial assistance, and education for staff and volunteers. None of this happens without volunteers, donors and neighbours across the Island.

We are overwhelmed! Tonight the Cape Breton Partnership chose our organization to be the beneficiary of their auction of a Kenny Boone painting at the annual Investor Summit.

Lindsay Construction placed the winning bid and donated the painting to Membertou Community.

Our Society is so grateful for the generosity of all involved! ❤️

This summer, during a music therapy session at Hospice, someone asked to hear "Let It Be." That one song started a conversation about the words of wisdom we carry with us. 🌻

Over the next few months, patients, staff and volunteers from the Hospice and An Cala shared their advice for others and lent their voices to the chorus. Many said at first that they had nothing worth sharing. With a little encouragement, they found their words, and those words are beautiful.

Today we gathered with families to release Words of Wisdom. Some of the voices you'll hear belong to patients who are no longer with us. Their families were with us today to honour them and hear their loved ones one more time.

Thank you to Jill Murphy, our music therapist, for her vision and care. Thank you to Presley and Ron for mixing the audio and to Social Work student Nicole MacNeil for creating the video. And thank you to every person who shared their wisdom and their voice.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County. 💛

Today we’re thinking about the people who make palliative care what it is. Our volunteers who show up with warm hands and open hearts. Our staff who care for patients and families on their hardest days. Our donors and neighbours who support the work that we do.

Because of you, families across Cape Breton County have somewhere to turn when life gets heavy. Thank you.

Behind every great show is a crew that never stops moving.

Thank you to our judges Joella Foulds, Dr. Kevin Orrell and Susan Gallop for your kind words, sharp eyes and good humour. You had a tough job this year (a tie says it all!).

To our emcee, Laurie Murchison, thank you too!

Thank you to the Dancing with the Stars for Hospice committee led by Co-Chairs Debbie Keating and Danielle LeVangie, and every volunteer who sold tickets, counted votes and kept the night running. And a big thank you to the team at NovaStream (led by Darcy J. Campbell) and the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre.

We couldn't have pulled it off without you.

We are still not over last night! 💃🕺

Our stars stepped way outside their comfort zones and our pros turned weeks of practice into something truly special. Every one of them left it all on the dance floor for palliative care.

Want to relive the glory or see what the big deal is all about? Watch them shine here:
