Last night, our CEO, Steph Ouellet, had the pleasure of presenting Mike Leigh's "Tender Loving Care" at the Forest City Film Festival. The movie tells the story of two friends, Amy and Rosie, who spend their working lives supporting some of society's most vulnerable people. But when Amy's father begins showing signs of dementia, being a care partner becomes very personal.

This is a reality we witness every day at the Alzheimer Society through the clients we support.

Stories like this remind us why support matters, for the person living with dementia and for everyone who loves them.

Karline has been with us for one (1) year as both a Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator and In-home Recreation Coordinator. In her role, Karline supports people living with dementia through meaningful, person-centered recreation and social engagement, both one-on-one in the home and in a group setting.

“I love this job because it allows me to build meaningful connections with people and make a positive difference in their day through recreation and companionship. I feel so fortunate to meet such amazing people, learn about their lives and experiences, and hear the stories that have shaped who they are.” - Karline

Family Centres London (Argyle, Carling-Thames, Fox Hollow & Huron Heights) are proud to be Dementia Friendly Community Supporters!

Kirsti Cheese, Community Connector System Coordinator at Childreach, shared: "Our biggest takeaway from the training was the idea of 'informed kindness.' A little understanding can make a big difference in how welcome and supported someone feels, and that's something every organization can offer."

Congratulations to the Town of Ingersoll who recently celebrated becoming a Dementia Friendly Community™ (DFC) Supporter. 👏

Rebekah, Public Education Coordinator from AlzSWP is shown presenting the DFC decal to some of our friends from Town of Ingersoll and Fire services.

What is your motivation for becoming a Dementia Friendly Communities Supporter?
"Our motivation is to support the Town of Ingersoll’s community and DEI Action Plan by ensuring municipal facilities provide welcoming, accessible, and inclusive environments for all residents and visitors living with dementia."

What are you hoping to learn through this education/training?
"We hope to learn practical tools for staff to communicate respectfully with individuals living with dementia, remove community barriers, and deliver compassionate, dignified customer service."

❓What is a DFC Supporter, you ask? DFC Supporters are businesses, organizations, community groups or municipal governments who are committed to paying attention to the social and physical needs of individuals living with dementia. They complete dementia friendly training to receive formal recognition for their commitment to dementia friendly initiatives.
