On September 30, BC Renal will commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day invites reflection on the history and ongoing impacts of colonialism and is an opportunity to honour Residential School Survivors and their families and reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation.

At BC Renal, we are grateful for the partnerships we have built with Indigenous patient partners and health system partners. Through collaboration, shared learning, and mutual respect, these relationships guide our efforts to advance culturally safe and respectful kidney care across the province.

An estimated 4 million Canadians live with kidney disease — and of that 4 million, a majority also suffer from chronic pain. Though these symptoms are often debilitating, many patients struggle to ask for help or access resources, particularly when their condition is stigmatized or appears invisible. For , we want patients living with kidney disease to know they're not alone — and that help is out there. Our webpage on symptom assessment and management has info on common symptoms like fatigue, muscle cramps, and restless leg syndrome, as well as symptom checklists to share with doctors and care teams: https://ow.ly/v73B50ZGLk9

September 13-19 is — a time to spread the word about living organ donation and its life-changing impacts; to celebrate living donors and transplant recipients; and to raise awareness of available resources.

Kidney transplants from living donors have saved the lives of thousands of patients across Canada — and, not only that, they have better success rates, shorter waiting times, and shorter patient recovery periods compared to deceased organ transplants. If you're considering a transplant or living kidney donation, the process might seem daunting — but we want you to know there are tools and resources out there to help guide your decision.
