B.C. companies developing defence and dual-use technologies will have a new pathway to test, validate and scale their solutions in real-world environments.

Through the Integrated Marketplace, delivered by Innovate BC, the Government of B.C. is launching a new province-wide Defence and Dual-Use Testbed as part of the its Look West strategy.

The testbed will support projects between B.C. innovators and defence partners to help demonstrate technologies aligned with Canadian and allied priorities, build credibility and create pathways to adoption and growth.

The new testbed is the eighth launched through the Integrated Marketplace and will benefit, alongside other testbeds, from $30 million in new provincial funding for the program.

As Vancouver prepares to host Web Summit in 2027, Innovate BC is once again leading the Road to Web Summit Vancouver (R2WSV), a multi-year comprehensive sector development initiative to help companies develop and hone the skills they need to find success at the conference and beyond.

Made-in-B.C. innovation is helping strengthen emergency preparedness and keep critical aviation services moving.

Through the Government of B.C.’s Integrated Marketplace, delivered by Innovate BC, up to $1 million will support a project between Abbotsford-based Fast Air and Richmond-based Holinova to deploy and test a mobile battery and solar power system at Abbotsford International Airport.

Designed to provide power without relying on the electrical grid, the technology will be tested as a cleaner alternative to diesel-powered backup systems, helping maintain critical aviation operations during outages and emergencies — including aircraft supporting wildfire response, medical transport, and search and rescue.

The project is the second launched through the Integrated Marketplace’s Forestry Innovation and Emergency Management Testbed and demonstrates how homegrown technologies can help strengthen resilience here in B.C. while creating opportunities for B.C. companies to prove their solutions in real-world environments and grow.

A second intake of the Early-Stage Demonstration Call is opening soon! 🚨

Beginning September 28, B.C. companies can apply for funding to demonstrate innovative technologies in real-world environments, helping bridge the gap between technology development and commercial adoption.

Through this intake, $2 million is available to support pilot-scale demonstrations, with eligible companies able to receive up to $500,000 per project.

Building on a first intake that supported 14 projects across B.C., this second call will create more opportunities for homegrown innovators to prove their technologies in practice, generate third-party validation and demonstrate their value to potential customers and investors.

Applications open September 28 and close October 30, 2026.
