FIGHT FOR OUR FUTURE ✊
On a beautiful spring day, over 200 people joined a march and rally in East Vancouver on Saturday, April 25. The weather reminded everyone that the world is worth fighting for.
Socialist Alternative Youth initiated the campaign for Earth Day, bringing together a coalition of high school students from Gladstone and New Westminster Secondary, university students from UBC and SFU, and young workers. Members of SAY, Young BC Greens and COPE helped organize the day.
The march along the main shopping street in East Vancouver, Commercial Drive, was led by Indigenous Women Rise and Daughters of the Drum. At the rear of the march Red Rebel Brigade performed their theatre.
Speakers were Derrick (COPE), Marisa and Selena (Gladstone and New Westminster high schools), Steve (SEIU Local 2, whose members are fighting cuts to cleaning services on the public transit), Ismail (Worker Solidarity Network), Yeedo(Young BC Greens) and Raine (Socialist Alternative Youth). Solidarity Notes Choir sang several songs relevant to Earth Day including (Water is Life). George Rammell brought his powerful art against bitumen pipelines. The speakers’ organizations had information tables as did the Wilderness Committee.
As the rally’s chair, Matt of SAY, said, “If we can cleanse the planet of capitalism where a handful of super-rich run and ruin the planet for their gain, humanity could live a joyful life in harmony with nature.”
Everyone agreed to come again next Earth Day, bringing more people together.

Thanks for having us North Vancouver 💚
Last weekend the Young Greens were out meeting folks in North Vancouver who have joined the B.C. Greens and our fight against the oligarchs!
We had great conversations with youth about solidarity with students, workers, and the people of Palestine.
