The FREDA Centre for Research on Violence Against Women and Children is most pleased to announce that as of January 1, 2025, Dr. Sarah Yercich has been promoted to the role of Co-Director, along with the founding Director, Dr. Margaret Jackson. This new position is most appropriately given to Dr. Yercich because of her outstanding record of accomplishments both within the Centre and in many other aspects of her career.

Dr. Yercich has been actively involved with the FREDA Centre for over a decade beginning in January 2013 as a Research Assistant, then becoming a Research Associate in 2016 and Associate Director in 2018 leading to her recent promotion to Co-Director. Through the FREDA Centre, Dr. Yercich leads a range of research projects that pertain to the safety and security of women, children/youth, and gender diverse individuals. She also engages in the development, implementation, and dissemination of research at the local, provincial, and national level, which includes securing research, knowledge mobilization activities, and collaboration with community, research, and government partners. As a result of her significant contributions to the FREDA Centre, Dr. Yercich was appointed as Adjunct Professor in the School of Criminology at Simon Fraser University and earned an Early Career Researcher position with the Alliance Against Violence and Adversity.

In addition to Dr. Yercich’s work with the FREDA Centre, she is an Instructor in the Sociology and Criminology Department at Capilano University with a cross-appointment in Women’s and Gender Studies where she is an Instructor and currently serving as the Department Head.

We enthusiastically welcome Dr. Yercich to her new role as Co-Director of the FREDA Centre.
