We are hiring Class 1 Truck Drivers in Edmonton to service multiple routes and customer locations. As one of our relief drivers, you will be scheduled for a variety of shifts. A typical work day involves several stops. Hands-on work is involved for some runs and early morning start times are an integral part of this job.

This is a full-time, permanent position for 40 hours per week. Overnights or long-hauls are not expected.

Driving routes will consist of local pick up from large volume raw material customers in support of our used cooking oil pick-up, grease trap services and bone and fat or bulk pick-up customers.

Your own transportation to the workplace is required due to lack of public transportation available. The Edmonton Plant is located just north of Sherwood Park. As a part of West Coast Reduction Ltd.'s hiring process, we request applicants to complete a background check for employment purposes. Motor vehicle operators will also be required to complete a driving assessment for employment consideration.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

-Pick up a variety of raw materials from customers including meat processors, restaurants and feedlots
-Drive scheduled routes to appointed customer destinations based on instructions from the Fleet Dispatcher and/or Fleet Superintendent
-Drive assigned routes based on Dispatcher or Fleet Supervisors instructions
-Collect a variety of raw materials from customers by operating company equipment safely and responsibly
-Empty trucks and fleet vehicles as required
-Maintain vehicle tools and equipment
-Conduct pre and post trip inspections
-Follow safety protocols and other procedures as dictated by the Company or the customer’s requirements
-Perform shift work and over time based on company business needs

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

-Must have valid AB Class 1 Driver’s License with a clean abstract required
-3 years of experience in commercial truck driving or a similar environment
-Strong knowledge of the surrounding neighbourhoods in Edmonton an asset
-Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, with excellent communication skills
-Familiarity with operating hydraulic equipment or vacuum trucks ideal
-Ability to frequently move, carry, lift, push and pull equipment up to 50 lbs without assistance and occasionally greater with assistance
-Capable of performing physical related job duties which involve repetitive lifting, kneeling, pulling and pushing
-Adaptable to adverse conditions including odours, heights, cold weather and exposure to by-products

Based at our Chilliwack plant location, the Class 1 Driver is expected to service multiple customer locations for the collection of bakery by-products (grain, flour) and other packaged goods. The role requires the delivery of exceptional customer service when interacting with customers. Often viewed as the face of the Company, Drivers are expected to act professionally both on the road and at locations of service when dealing with customers and the public. Status: Full-Time, Permanent
Shift Schedule: Wednesday to Sunday
Plant Location: 44370 Simpson Road, Chilliwack in South Sumas
Fleet Vehicle Types: Manual 36ft or 53ft dry van, roll off trucks or gravel style with flat deck trailer
(A typical work day involves several stops and may involve early mornings; however, overnights are not expected.)

The role will be expected to haul across the border into Washington state several times a week. The successful candidate must be willing to submit to a US DOT approved drug and alcohol testing program, in addition to completion of other pre-employment screening verification.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Drive scheduled routes based on instructions from the Manager
• Assist the Plant Receivers by loading and unloading product
• Deliver bins and other equipment to avoid customer’s production interruption
• Develop and maintain good customer relations by providing quality customer service
• Maintain tools and equipment (hoses, tools, wands, extensions, spill response kits, etc.) for cleanliness and safe operating standards
• Perform daily trip inspections including completion of driver logs and other logs
• Operate all equipment safely and efficiently
• Actively participate in providing feedback, input or suggestions for route efficiency and/or improvements to customer service

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must have a BC Class 1 Driver’s Licence with a clean abstract
• 3 years of experience in commercial truck driving or similar environment or industry
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs frequently and walk up towards top of trailers for pre-trips
• Willingness to haul across the border into Washington State (USA)
• Strong knowledge of Greater Vancouver / Lower Mainland and surrounding neighbourhood areas
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, with excellent communication skills
• Solid interpersonal skills for interaction with customers, suppliers, other team members
• Knowledge of provincial commercial vehicle regulations and bylaws an asset
• Forklift Certifications prior to employment commencement is an asset, or ability to obtain Forklift Certifications within first 3 months of employment is required
• Ability to use or learn to use an electric pallet jack is required
• Perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing and reaching overhead above the shoulders daily
