North Star of Herschel Island has just celebrated 76 years since being built in San Francisco for two Inuit fur trappers, Fred Carpenter and Jim Wolki. The ship was used for transporting fur from Banks Island, NT. to market in Herschel Island, Tuktoyaktuk or Aklavik for over thirty years when barges and planes took over the routes.
