Canada is a National and Provincial Historic Site once dedicated to the art, writings and life of renowned Canadian icon, Emily Carr. Emily’s father, Richard Carr, settled his family in British Columbia. Instead of being English he broadened into being British…and then Canadian. In the little town of Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, he built the well-appointed villa that was to become the birthplace of Canada’s most interesting and inspirational artist, Emily Carr. Come and learn more about this unique woman whose art has come to symbolize the wild spirit of Canada’s West Coast. Emily Carr House is the wellspring of her creativity and the launching point for a greater understanding of what drove this strong, dynamic and eccentric writer and painter to the heights of creative energy.
