We are so incredibly grateful for the donations received from the Vita Hospital Foundation, and Gerdie Fisher, as well as family and friends in memory of retired firefighter Vern Fisher who recently passed away.
We are so honored that during their time of grief, Vern's family, friends and community would continue to support our department, the place Vern called home for 30 years!
At Vern's celebration of life, the family asked that in lieu of flowers, folks would consider making a donation to our department, and we are blown away from all the support we have received.

What a fun and busy day in Vita yesterday!
We had the pleasure of hosting the K-6 students from Shevchenko School for Fire Prevention day at the fire hall.
So much fun showing the students all about the trucks, tools and safety gear we have, and teaching them all about fire safety in the home and having a family escape plan!

We sent students home with homework!!

#1 Know and memorize your home address.

#2 Plan and practice a family fire escape plan, and have a safe meeting point outside.

#3 Have the adults in your home check and
test smoke alarms.

#4 Know the location of fire extinguishers and/or fire blankets in your home.

And just as we wrapped up with the last group of students, we were sent out on a call!

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of retired Firefighter Vern Fisher.
Vern served on the RM of Stuartburn Fire Department for 30 years, and was very proud to serve his community and be a part of our Fire Family.
Please join us in offering our condolences to Gerdie and family.
Rest easy brother, you will be missed but never forgotten.

Heat Exhaustion Or Heat Stroke.
Keep an eye on those around you, especially during this current heat.

Do you know what the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke is?

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke both stem from extreme heat, but heat exhaustion is a milder warning sign caused by water and salt loss, while heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency where the body's cooling system fails completely and core temperature spikes to (40 degrees Celsius or 104 degrees Fahrenheit) or higher.

If you think you may have heat exhaustion, remember to:

* Stop physical activity & move to a cool or shaded area.
* Loosen tight clothing.
* Sip cool water or sports drinks.
* Take a cool shower or use cold compresses.

Note: If a person does not improve within 30 minutes, it may progress to heat stroke

If you think you may have heat stroke, remember to:
* Call 911 immediately.
* While waiting for help, move the person to a cooler environment, remove excess layers, and actively cool them down with wet cloths, ice packs, or a fan.
* Do not give them fluids if they are confused, vomiting, or unconscious.

Understanding the differences between the two conditions ensures proper action can be taken.
