There are few moments more thrilling than when a reader falls in love with a book outside of their comfort zone! The sci-fi lovers on our team were over the moon when Maz joined them on the dark side thanks to today's book.

Here's Maz:

The Mountain in the Sea captivated me with its intelligent octopus characters and beautifully woven, intersecting storylines. Venturing beyond my usual genre, it challenged me to think differently—so much so that I created a character map just to fully grasp the intricate connections between everyone involved.

Tomorrow (Monday, June 22), is the final day of our Teen Study Time at the library! The Community Room will stay open from 6 to 8 p.m. for teens who need some extra quiet study time for exams.

Today, we're hearing from Ted Battiston, former General Manager of our Division and long-time library fan.

The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings box set was given to me by my grandmother (Leamington’s finest Librarian) when I was just a young boy. I remember being scared, amazed, and challenged by the books. Mostly, I reflect that this was the gift that turned me into a life-long reader. For that, I’m forever grateful.

We've tackled historical fiction, so let's dive into some historical NON-fiction with Linda Jones. Linda was on our team for almost 20 years and is now enjoying a well-deserved retirement!

Here's Linda's pick:

The Wager by David Grann is one of my favourite books. It takes the reader back to 1740 to travel on a British warship that was seeking treasures. This non-fiction story moves around the world, where you’ll witness bravery, tyranny, and murder. An epic tale and a great geography lesson.

Many books have made an impact on my life, but I am choosing a recent read that spoke to me in many ways. The Correspondent made me laugh and cry, and having read it twice, I realize that this is a book that has something for everyone. I will keep it on my bedside table for those moments when I need to connect with Sybil again!
