CBC Kids Reads airs October 19 at 9:00 a.m. on CBC TV with the big reveal at 9:40 a.m. 🤩Who will win from the top five Canadian shortlisted children’s books?

Did you spot the ball counting in the video? Kids and families dropped balls through a shoot and those bright balls represented one vote each. The votes have been counted with the big winner under wraps for now!

Shot on location at the Whitby Central library in mid-September, this annual tradition from the CBC is sure to delight our local audience with the Library taking centre stage.💙

What if a lifelong passion started with a single library book?
Ask four-year-old Milo what's he's excited about and the answer is instantaneous — tornadoes! 🌪️ Every trip to the Library with his family must include at least one book about twisters, wild weather, or how storms work.

We can't predict the future, but we wouldn't be surprised if there's a meteorologist in the making hiding behind those pages.

Every passion starts somewhere. Sometimes, it starts at the Library.

Ribbons to Remember 🧡
Our community has been showing up in a beautiful way.
Orange ribbons have been added to our "Ribbons to Remember" displays at all Whitby Public Library locations, creating visible reminders of remembrance, reflection, and our shared commitment to truth and reconciliation.

If you haven’t added a ribbon yet, there’s still time. Ribbons are available at all WPL locations until October 6. Thank you to everyone who has taken a moment to participate and help create these meaningful community displays.

All Whitby Public Library locations will be closed on September 30 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
