Happy 2-Year Anniversary, Austin! 🎉

Today we're celebrating two years with Austin, our Client Service Officer at DDDC!

Austin is a proud citizen of the Ta'an Kwäch'än Council, and he cares deeply about helping our community grow and building a strong foundation for future generations. That shows in the work he does every day.

He might seem quiet when you first meet him, but it doesn't take long for his friendly, fun energy and big heart to come through. We're lucky to have him on the team.

🎉 Please join us in congratulating our very own Tiffany Eckert-Maret!

Tiffany, our VP of External Relations and Corporate Secretary, was honoured with a Connected North Yukon Community Builder Award, recognizing her as a Community Connector.

If you've worked with Tiffany, you already know why. She's the person who makes the introduction, opens the door, and brings everyone to the table to say "let's figure this out." So much of the good that happens between communities, organizations and people has her fingerprints on it, and this recognition is so well deserved.

We're also proud to celebrate alongside the other Community Connectors recognized: Doronn Fox, Justin Ferbey, Kluane Adamek and Peter Johnston. What a group! 🙌

Thank you to Connected North and the Yukon Association of Education Professionals for honouring the people who build community in the North.

We pause today to honour the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and the children who never returned home. This day is a time for reflection, learning, and recognizing the ongoing impacts of residential schools in our communities. We encourage everyone to take this opportunity to listen, learn, and walk the path of reconciliation together.

Five years ago, John Laffra joined Da Daghay Development Corporation as a Business Development Officer. He told us he wanted to play a role in building this business. We just didn't realize he meant several of them.

Since then, John has gone from Business Development to Human Resources, to Chief Financial Officer. He learned how we make our money, then who makes it, and now he's the one making sure every cent works as hard as the people who earned it. We are fairly confident there isn't a penny at DDDC that John hasn't personally introduced himself to.

That discipline has taken this company to a new level. But the part we are the proudest of isn't the title on his door. It's what his path says about DDDC: when someone shows us who they want to become, we find a way to help them get there.
Happy five years, John. Congratulations, and thank you.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden passing of our dear friend Philip last week. Losing him has affected our team deeply, and we needed a few days before we could find the words to honour him properly.

Philip served as a director on our board many years ago, and that could easily have been the end of the story — but it wasn't. He came back to lend his talents to our financials and audits, and in doing so became so much more than a numbers person: he was a mentor and teacher, generous with his time and his knowledge, always ready to support and guide.

Anyone who spent time with Philip knew his humour, his kindness, and his kindred spirit — not to mention that unmistakable Kiwi accent and the easygoing New Zealand way of life he carried with him everywhere. We feel lucky to have shared so many events and memories with him over the years, and we will carry those with us.

Our thoughts, love, and continued support go out to Maxine and the girls during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest in peace, Philip. You will be deeply missed. 🇳🇿💐💗

The City of Whitehorse is highlighting recent housing successes, including Winter Crossing (the largest affordable housing initiative in Yukon history!), as part of shaping their new Housing Action Plan. Have thoughts on future housing solutions? Learn more and share your input at the link below.

𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁.

As the City develops a Housing Action Plan, recent projects across Whitehorse show what’s possible when governments, non-profits, developers and community partners work together.

Winter Crossing, Normandy Living, the Northern Community Land Trust and The Hearth are creating affordable homeownership opportunities, supportive housing, senior housing and others add much-needed rental homes.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴

The largest affordable housing initiative in Yukon history, Winter Crossing received $2.3 million through the City’s Rental and Supportive Housing Development Incentive, along with support from territorial, federal, Indigenous and development partners. Construction is expected to wrap up next year.

The Housing Action Plan will build on lessons from projects like these to help support future housing solutions.
