12 candidates. One stage. First Nations priorities front and centre. 🗳️

Yesterday evening, the full dozen of Winnipeg’s 2026 mayoral candidates took the stage at the Manitoba Museum for the Mayoral Candidates Forum: Urban First Nations Priorities.

Hosted jointly by the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC), Southern Chiefs' Organization (SCO), Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc. (MKO), and Treaty One Nations, the public forum created an opportunity for First Nations leadership and citizens to hear directly from every candidate seeking to become Winnipeg’s next Mayor.

With all 12 candidates in attendance, the evening brought a wide range of perspectives to the stage as candidates responded to questions on issues affecting First Nations people in Winnipeg — including community safety and justice, housing and homelessness, economic opportunities, representation in municipal decision-making, and the relationship between First Nations and the City of Winnipeg.

For Treaty One, these conversations are especially important as our presence and economic footprint within Winnipeg continue to grow. The decisions made at City Hall have a direct impact on our Nations, our citizens, and developments such as Naawi-Oodena.

Miigwech to AMC, SCO, and MKO for working alongside Treaty One to bring this forum together, to the Manitoba Museum for hosting us, to everyone who joined us in the auditorium, and to all 12 mayoral candidates for taking part.

Winnipeggers head to the polls on October 28, 2026. Make your voice heard.

HONOURING THE FALLEN | CFB WAINWRIGHT

Today, as the community of Wainwright and Canadians across the country come together in remembrance and support, Treaty One Nations (T1N) joins in honouring the four Canadian Armed Forces members who tragically lost their lives during a training exercise at CFB Wainwright, Alberta, on October 17, 2026.

We honour the lives and service of Sergeant Morgan Wong, Private Shaun Farrell, Private Aidan Goulding, and Private Hayden Lykkemark.

Our deepest condolences are with their families, loved ones, and fellow service members. We also extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the 39 members who were injured, particularly those who continue to recover from their injuries. We pray for their healing, strength, and a full recovery, and for comfort and encouragement for their families during this difficult time.

Treaty One Nations shares a meaningful historical connection with the Canadian Armed Forces through the former Kapyong Barracks, once home to Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry and now known as Naawi-Oodena. We honour this shared history and the enduring relationship of mutual respect between our Nations and the Canadian military.

On behalf of the Seven Treaty One First Nations, we stand alongside the Canadian Armed Forces community in remembrance, solidarity, and support.

May those who lost their lives be remembered with honour, may the injured find healing, and may all affected families find comfort, strength, and peace.
