October 10 marks World Mental Health Day, an important opportunity to come together and advocate for stronger connections, healthier communities, and accessible mental health supports.

At St.Amant, we recognize that a mental health journey is unique to every person, no two paths look the same. People with developmental disabilities and autism face unique mental health challenges, and their perspectives deserve to be heard and respected.

This World Mental Health Day, let’s start by listening. Join us as promote kindness, connection, and compassion to build a community where everyone feels safe to be themselves.

----------------------------------

Last week, St.Amant came together for a meaningful National Day for Truth and Reconciliation gathering.

A special thank you to the Province of Manitoba and Minister Mike Moyes, MLA for Riel for supporting the event through the Manitoba Government’s Orange Shirt Day Fund.

The $6,000 contribution helped make the day possible, including the shared feast, musicians, dancers, and the participation of elders and knowledge keepers.

We’re grateful for this support and the opportunity to come together to learn, reflect and honour the importance of Truth and Reconciliation.

On September 29, the St.Amant Knowledge Seekers organized a day of listening, learning, and reflection in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We gathered in the Buhler Gardens to acknowledge the truth of our past and celebrate the strength, beauty, and resilience of Indigenous cultures.

As the sun began to rise, the lighting of the sacred fire marked the beginning of the ceremony. Elder Cheryl Thomson of Peguis First Nation and Sonya Kubrakovich guided us through a sunrise Pipe Ceremony for love, community, and children here and those in the spirit world. The ceremony continued with a powwow and drum dance circle, led by Roger Green and the Whitehorse Singers from Sagkeeng First Nation and Shoal Lake First Nation, while Shyla Boubard and Anna Boubard of Sagkeeng First Nation brought the spirit of Fancy and Traditional Dance.

Following a feast of beef soup and bannock, Zeann Manernaluk shared stories and Inuit songs from her home territory near Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. Knowledge Carrier Suzanne Pearson and storyteller Karen Spence joined musicians Ryan Spence and René Jobin to share gifts of the Métis tradition through art, music, and story.

Throughout the day, orange ribbons of love were tied for the children who guide us, honouring those who are here with us and those who did not return home from residential schools. Each ribbon serves as a reminder of the gifts of every child and our shared commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and a heartfelt thank you to the Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous community members who shared their knowledge, teachings, and traditions.

As we continue our journey toward reconciliation, we remain committed to listening, learning, and putting these teachings into practice through our work supporting First Nations children and their families in their home communities.

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Today, we pause, reflect, and remember the children who never returned home and honour Survivors and their families. Reconciliation is rooted in the courage to listen, the humility to acknowledge past and ongoing harms, and an unwavering commitment to upholding the truth.

Reconciliation begins when we understand the harms of our past and their effects on our present. It means acknowledging and advocating against the systemic harms that continue to impact Indigenous Peoples and communities today.

At St.Amant, we are committed to listening, learning, and building relationships grounded in respect, compassion, and understanding. By embracing Indigenous perspectives and creating meaningful opportunities to learn, we can continue moving forward on our journey toward reconciliation and healing.

----------------------------
