Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities who continue to carry their stories.

At Grant’s Old Mill, we recognize the history of this land and its deep connections to Red River Métis, First Nations, and Inuit peoples. We also recognize that reconciliation requires more than remembrance—it requires listening, learning, acknowledging the truth, and taking meaningful action.

As a place dedicated to preserving and sharing Red River Métis history, we have a responsibility to ensure these histories and experiences are remembered, respected, and shared with future generations.

Today and every day, we commit to continuing to learn and to walk forward together in the spirit of truth and reconciliation.

🧡 Every Child Matters.

As we head into the last weekend of summer and begin to welcome fall, there’s something beautiful about mornings like this. 🍂

The mist on the water, the changing season in the air, and a quiet reminder to enjoy these last days of summer before autumn settles in.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and beautiful long weekend. 🌿🍁

On this day in 1870, Manitoba officially entered Confederation as Canada's fifth province.

This historic milestone was made possible through the leadership, vision, and determination of the people of Red River, including the Métis Nation and leaders such as Louis Riel and Cuthbert Grant, whose contributions helped shape the Manitoba we know today.

As we mark this anniversary, we also honour Cuthbert Grant—Métis leader, entrepreneur, buffalo hunt captain, and founder of Grant's Old Mill. His legacy continues to inspire our community and reminds us of the important role the Métis people played in the history and development of Manitoba.

Today, we celebrate our shared history, reflect on our roots, and look toward the future.

Manitoba Day & Remembering Cuthbert Grant

Today we mark two significant moments in Manitoba's history.

July 15 is Manitoba Day, commemorating the day Manitoba entered Confederation in 1870 as Canada's fifth province. It is also the anniversary of the passing of Cuthbert Grant (1793–1854), a visionary Métis leader, community builder, and one of the influential figures who helped shape the future of the Red River Settlement and the province we know today.

Cuthbert Grant's leadership strengthened the Red River Métis Nation, fostered community, and helped lay foundations that continue to influence Manitoba generations later. His legacy reminds us that our history is not only something we remember—it is something we carry forward.

As we reflect on our past, we also look to the future. Through preserving places like Grant's Old Mill, sharing our stories, and bringing communities together, we honour those who came before us while building for generations yet to come.

Honouring the past. Building the future.

Happy Manitoba Day. 💙🤍
