Today, on the third anniversary of the heinous terror attacks perpetrated by Hamas on October 7th in Israel, I am remembering Winnipegger Vivian Silver, her family, and all those who lost their lives or loved ones on that horrific day.

I appreciate the messages of support to the Jewish community from many in Winnipeg and beyond, who recognize, rightly so, that today’s somber anniversary should be about nothing more than honouring those impacted by this particular act of hate. I will be spending time with Jewish community members in different parts of the country, including in Belleville, to extend my support in our ongoing efforts to fight antisemitism in this country and beyond.

I remain committed to building bridges here at home, and helping to heal the pain that exists broadly in our diversity of communities so that we may advance the collective cause for peace.

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, dedicated to honouring Residential School Survivors, their families, and communities, and to recognize the lasting impacts of Canada’s Residential School system. These commemorations provide an opportunity to deepen Canada’s understanding of the intergenerational effects of residential schools and to reflect on their enduring legacy as part of the ongoing journey toward truth, healing, and reconciliation.
