Gurez, March 31: Government Degree College (GDC) Gurez today organized an awareness programme under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) and NCORD initiative on its campus, aimed at sensitizing students and the local community about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of a drug-free society.
The programme commenced at 10:30 AM with participation from various departments of Sub Division Gurez, including the School Education Department, Health Department, Youth Services and Sports Department, and Social Welfare Department. Faculty members and students of GDC Gurez attended the event in significant numbers.
Principal GDC Gurez, Prof. Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, presided over the function and emphasized the collective responsibility of society in combating substance abuse. He highlighted the role of educational institutions in shaping awareness and guiding youth towards healthy and constructive lifestyles.
The Guest of Honour, Principal GDC Tulail, Prof. Tariq Ahmad Wani, addressed the gathering and underscored the need for coordinated efforts among institutions and government agencies to effectively tackle the menace of drugs. He appreciated the initiative taken by GDC Gurez in organizing such an important programme.
A key lecture on drug abuse and its consequences was delivered by Rifat Nazir, who elaborated on the physical, psychological, and social impacts of substance misuse. The session aimed to educate students about preventive measures and encourage informed decision-making.
The programme was coordinated by Prof. Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, NMBA/NCORD Coordinator, while proceedings were conducted by Prof. Imran Ahmad. Speakers from different departments also shared their insights, stressing awareness, early intervention, and community participation.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to supporting the national mission of a drug-free India.
