MEDIA STATEMENT
Christians of South Africa (COSA)
Issued by: Apostle Derick Mosoana – National President

Christians of South Africa (COSA) politically and unequivocally condemns the so-called Section 22 Ad Hoc Committee for the Christian Sector established under the CRL Rights Commission.

This committee is illegitimate, unmandated, and unconstitutional. It does not represent the Christian community of South Africa and has no authority to speak on behalf of the Church. Its composition reflects ideological engineering, not democratic consultation or doctrinal credibility. COSA rejects it in its entirety.

We regard this committee as a deliberate act of state overreach intended to normalise government control over religion under the guise of consultation. No Chapter 9 institution has the power to appoint itself as custodian, regulator, or spokesperson of Christianity.

COSA demands the immediate disbandment of this committee. We will oppose—politically, legally, and publicly—any attempt to regulate, restructure, or redefine the Church through imposed state mechanisms.

The Church is not a sector of the state.
Hands off the Church.
The Church must remain free.

Christians of South Africa (COSA) Condemns the State’s Abuse of Power and the Coordinated Attempt to Destroy a Man of God

Christians of South Africa (COSA) unequivocally welcomes and celebrates the decision of the High Court in Gqeberha to dismiss the National Prosecuting Authority’s application for leave to appeal in the matter involving Reverend Timothy Omotoso.

This ruling does more than clear a man’s name — it exposes a grave miscarriage of justice, a reckless abuse of prosecutorial power, and a disturbing willingness by the State to pursue persecution without evidence.

For years, Reverend Omotoso was subjected to trial by media, public humiliation, and institutional harassment, while the State persisted with a case that the courts have now decisively rejected. The High Court’s refusal to grant leave to appeal confirms what was evident all along: there were no reasonable prospects of success because there was no credible evidence.

COSA condemns in the strongest possible terms the conduct of those who sought to extort, manipulate, and weaponise allegations — using the language of victimhood to pursue personal gain, public attention, or vengeance. Such conduct is an affront to genuine victims of crime and a betrayal of justice itself. False accusations and sextortion schemes are crimes in their own right, and they corrode the moral fabric of society.

We further denounce the State’s failure to:
1. Protect the integrity of the justice system
2. Safeguard the presumption of innocence
3. Prevent prosecutorial overreach driven by public pressure rather than proof

The Constitution of South Africa does not permit the State to hunt individuals to satisfy public outrage, nor does it allow faith leaders to be sacrificed on the altar of political optics.

This case stands as a warning:
When the State abandons evidence, when prosecutors abandon objectivity, and when courts are replaced by headlines, no citizen is safe.

As Christians, we recognise the hand of God in this outcome. The God whom Reverend Timothy Omotoso serves is a God of justice, truth, and vindication. Scripture reminds us:

“He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.”
— Psalm 37:6

COSA calls upon:
1. The NPA to account for its failures
2. The media to reflect on its role in character assassination

We reaffirm that faith is not a crime, acquittal is not a technicality, and justice is not negotiable.

God reigns. Truth has prevailed. Righteousness has been vindicated.

Kenny Kunene found at home of DJ Sumbody murder accused

Patriotic Alliance deputy president and City of Johannesburg Transport MMC Kenny Kunene was found at the Sandton residence of Katiso “KT” Molefe when police executed a raid on Monday morning, News24 reports.

Molefe, accused of orchestrating the 2022 murder of amapiano star Oupa “DJ Sumbody” Sefoka, was arrested at the opulent property. Kunene was reportedly awaiting a scheduled meeting with Molefe at the time of the raid.

According to sources, Kunene was not detained. He remained on scene briefly to provide a statement and was subsequently released. No charges have been levelled against him. Molefe, who allegedly led a hired hit team in the brutal killing of DJ Sumbody, was taken into custody and has already appeared in court today.

This unexpected intersection of a high‑ranking political figure and a murder suspect has stirred speculation about the nature of their association.

The arrest is part of a broader police operation linked to the high-profile investigation. Authorities are continuing to urge the public to come forward with information that could aid in the unraveling of this complex case.

COSA CONDEMNS R**E ALLEGATIONS AGAINST SIBASA PASTOR – CALLS FOR HOLINESS IN WORD AND DEED

The Christians of South Africa (COSA) express deep shock and outrage at the serious allegations of r**e leveled against a 40-year-old pastor, Mr Sikhubu Phathutshedzo Innocent, who was arrested in connection with the alleged r**e of a 14-year-old girl at a church in Sibasa, under the Thohoyandou policing precinct.

As COSA, we stand firmly with the victim and her family during this difficult time and commend her bravery in speaking out. The Church must always be a place of refuge and healing — not a hunting ground for predators hiding behind pulpits.

We unequivocally condemn any form of abuse — spiritual, emotional, or sexual — and call on all ministers of the Gospel to not only preach holiness but to live holy lives that reflect the values and teachings of Christ. Those entrusted with spiritual authority must be held to the highest standard of accountability.

We are deeply concerned about the growing number of abuse cases involving religious leaders across the country. This is a stain on the integrity of the church and a betrayal of the faith community's trust.

COSA further confirms that its President, Mr Derick Mosoana, will attend the court proceedings on Tuesday, 30 July 2025, at the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court to monitor the case and stand in solidarity with the survivor and all victims of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).

We call on law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to ensure justice is served without fear or favor. The church must return to being a moral compass — not a breeding ground for criminal conduct.

Passing of Bishop Dr. SD Gumbi

It is with deep sorrow and reverence that Christians of South Africa (COSA) mourn the passing of Bishop Dr. SD Gumbi, a true general in the Body of Christ, a father in the faith, and a mighty vessel of God whose life has impacted generations.

Bishop Gumbi’s life was a profound testimony of unwavering faith, selfless service, and a relentless commitment to the advancement of the Kingdom of God. As a spiritual father, prophetic voice, and exemplary leader, he carried the Gospel with boldness and integrity, shaping countless lives and leaving an indelible mark on the Church and society.

His teachings, wisdom, and prophetic declarations will echo through time, and his legacy will continue to inspire believers and leaders for generations to come.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Gumbi family, the entire church community, and all who were touched by this remarkable servant of God. May the Holy Spirit—our Comforter—grant you peace, strength, and hope during this time of mourning.

Though heaven has gained a great soldier, we deeply mourn the earthly loss of a father, mentor, and Kingdom trailblazer.

Rest well, Bishop.
Your work on earth is complete, but your Kingdom impact will never be forgotten.

COSA REJECTS RAMAPHOSA’S EMPTY GESTURES: SOUTH AFRICA NEEDS ACCOUNTABILITY, NOT COMMISSIONS

Christians of South Africa (COSA) has noted with serious concern the announcements made by President Cyril Ramaphosa during the 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA) this evening.

The decision to place Minister Senzo Mchunu on special leave and to establish yet another Commission of Inquiry is a weak and calculated move aimed at pacifying public outrage rather than delivering justice. It is now abundantly clear that President Ramaphosa is unwilling or incapable of dealing with corruption and maladministration within his own government.

COSA is compelled to state without hesitation: President Ramaphosa has become a symbol of impotence in leadership — a toothless dog unable to bite down on wrongdoing, no matter how blatant.

South Africans are not fooled. They have witnessed this pattern before — where commissions replace convictions, and temporary suspensions replace permanent accountability. COSA calls on all faith-based and civil society organisations to rise in united demand for integrity and justice in our government.

COSA DEMANDS:

1. Immediate dismissal of Minister Mchunu, pending criminal investigations.
2. An independent and time-bound Commission of Inquiry, chaired by a retired judge and not influenced by political interests.
3. Public disclosure of all implicated individuals and findings, with real consequence management.
4. A recommitment to ethical governance and moral accountability across all spheres of the state.

As the Church, we are called to be the conscience of the nation. As COSA, we will not remain silent while the people suffer under a leadership more committed to self-preservation than national restoration.

We echo the words of Proverbs 29:2: “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked rule, the people groan.”

South Africa is groaning. It’s time for righteous leadership.
