It has the ability to discuss all thematic human rights issues and situations that require its attention throughout the year. It meets at the United Nations Office at Geneva.

🟢 The UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples ( ) is visiting to provide guidance on the rights of living in voluntary isolation, and those who have made initial contact.

The visit takes place in response to a request from the International Working Group of Indigenous Peoples in Isolation and Initial Contact (Grupo de Trabalho Internacional de Proteção de Povos Indígenas em Situação de Isolamento e Contato Inicial / Gti Piaci ), an alliance of 21 Indigenous and indigenist organizations from South America dedicated to protecting, defending and promoting the rights of Indigenous Peoples in isolation and initial contact.

The United Nations Intergovernmental Working Group on the effective implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action is holding an intersessional meeting on Wednesday 27 May 2026 at the United Nations Office at Geneva.

The Intergovernmental Working Group on the Effective Implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action is one of the three mechanisms established to follow up the Declaration and Programme of Action of the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, held in Durban, South Africa, in 2001.

In 2022, the United Nations General Assembly entrusted the Intergovernmental Working Group to devote at least half of its annual session to the elaboration of a draft United Nations Declaration on the promotion and full respect of the human rights of people of .

During this intersessional meeting the Intergovernmental Working Group will continue with its second reading of the draft Declaration on the rights of people of African descent by starting with Article 20.
