What does it take for young people to find decent work?

Across the world, one in five young people is not in employment, education or training. And in 2025, global youth unemployment rose to 12.4%.

Behind these figures are important questions about education, employment opportunities and the changing world of work.

In the latest ILO Future of Work podcast, Sara Elder, lead author of the Global Employment Trends for Youth 2026 report, discusses the challenges young people face, including the implications of artificial intelligence for entry-level jobs.

The conversation also features youth representatives from the World Scouting — Anca-Ana Sampetrean from Romania, Isaura Rodríguez Calderón from Mexico and Innocent Mudzingwa from Zimbabwe, bringing their perspectives to the discussion.

On the International Day of Rural Women, Putuli Kheyang's story reminds us that rural women are not only growing food. They are strengthening livelihoods, supporting one another and creating new opportunities for their communities.
