CRESMAO hosted the opening ceremony of the Grand African NeMO (GANO) 2026 exercise on 29 October 2026 at its headquarters, officially launching activities running through 6 November 2026. The ceremony featured welcome remarks by the Director of CRESMAO, Commodore (Rtd) Richard Shammah, a presentation on the exercise by the Director of Exercise, Captain Gérard Kérébel, and the official opening address. CRESMAO participated in the consecutive 𝐙𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 (𝐙𝐏𝐂𝐬) 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐙𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐅 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄, conducted back-to-back from 𝟖 𝐭𝐨 𝟏𝟎 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 (Zone F: 8–9 September; Zone E: 9–10 September), in preparation for the upcoming Grand African NEMO 2026 (𝐆𝐀𝐍𝐎𝟐𝟔) exercise scheduled for 29 October to 6 November 2026. Coordinated under the authority of 𝐂𝐄𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐓 and the framework of the Yaoundé Architecture, these successive planning sessions brought together regional maritime leaders, navies, coast guards, and operational planners to harmonize exercise play and strengthen cross-zonal operational coordination. Discussions focused on tailoring exercise scenarios to the shared realities of Zones E and F, defining joint asset deployments, and testing real-time information sharing across national Maritime Operations Centres (MOCs), the respective Multinational Maritime Coordination Centres (MMCCs), and CRESMAO using YARIS.

The consecutive sessions successfully validated communication protocols and inter-agency cooperation among maritime security forces and key national stakeholders—including ministries of justice, interior, finance, and fisheries. By incorporating lessons learned from previous editions and aligning key focus areas—ranging from Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) and Anti-Piracy to countering crude oil theft, IUU fishing, and drug trafficking—the combined planning efforts established a robust operational foundation. CRESMAO remains committed to supporting both Zone E and Zone F actors in enhancing interoperability, mutual trust, and collective action for a safer Gulf of Guinea.
