Democrats Abroad Chile is one of 75 active country committees around the world connecting Americans with US politics. We are a community of US citizens linked by our passion for our country and Democratic politics offering a vital social-political link for long and short-term US citizens living abroad in an increasingly mobile and globally linked community. We deliver mission critical votes to US Federal elections. We discuss, create, and communicate global perspectives on US policy to Washington, our US representatives, hometowns, and to our Chilean community. Democrats Abroad is open to any American citizen of voting age who supports the principles of the Democratic Party. No oath of loyalty, fees or dues, or past voting record is required to become a member. Democrats Abroad is a full state committee of the Democratic Party casting votes to help determine Democratic candidates. With a great concentration of members in Santiago but members representing Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Valparaíso, Concepción, Talcahuano, La Serena, Antofagasta, Temuco, Rancagua, Talca, Arica, Chillán, Iquique, and Puerto Montt, Democrats Abroad Chile is looking to become more active throughout the country. In 2013, DA Chile hopes to form its first chapter.

Minnesota voters abroad! ❄️ Three crucial statewide races are on the ballot this November.

Peggy Flanagan is running for U.S. Senate, in the first open race for this seat since 2002, against Republican Michele Tafoya. Her priorities include child care, health care costs, and economic support for working families. As lieutenant governor, she has helped lead investments in affordable housing and child care.

Secretary of State Steve Simon is seeking a fourth term, with his campaign highlighting ballot access, election administration, and accurate election information.

Attorney General Keith Ellison is running for re-election, focusing on consumer protection, civil rights, and public safety.

Action alleviates anxiety.

The House has gone home until after the election. Democrats Abroad volunteers have not. Right now they are calling Americans overseas in key states and districts, one conversation at a time, and they will keep calling through Election Day.

How you return your ballot depends entirely on your home state.

Some states let any overseas voter return their ballot electronically, whether by email, fax, or an online portal. A handful only allow return by fax. Others open electronic return just for military voters or those in designated hardship areas, everyone else in that state mails it back. And some states require every overseas voter to mail it in, full stop. Alabama has its own wrinkle: electronic return is allowed, but only if you specifically requested your blank ballot be sent to you by email in the first place.

None of this works without timing. The MOVE Act requires your state to transmit a validly requested ballot at least 45 days before a federal election, precisely so a ballot mailed from overseas has a real shot at getting back in time.
