Guangdong University of Finance was established in 1950. It was firstly named as The Cadres’ School for the South China Branch of the People’s Bank of China(PBOC) and then renamed as Guangdong Banking School in August, 1979. The school was promoted to be
Guangzhou College of Finance sponsored by PBOC in 1985. With the approval of the State Education Ministry, the college was entitled as Guangzhou Senior College of Finance. Since 2000, the college has been sponsored by both central and local government. Guangdong Banking School joined the college and became its campus area in Zhaoqing city in 2001. With the approval of the State Education Ministry, the college was then promoted to be Guangdong University of Finance in May, 2005. University Profile
After over fifty years of construction and development, Guangdong University of Finance has developed from strength to strength. It is now a university worthy of its name Now, the university has 15 departments and has established 23 undergraduate majors, including Finance, Accounting, Insurance and International Economy and Trade, with more than 20,000 full-time students and over 10,000 registered students for continuous education. Since 1992, full-time college education, adult education and professional training have turned out to be the new and typical “one body and two wings” education programs for the university.Besides the full-time bachelor degree program, the college offers correspondence education program for bachelor degreestudents and junior college students, TV education program, network education program and other professional training programs. Theuniversity has established quite a few training centres, such as the Guangzhou Senior Financial Talents’ Training Centre, the Financial English Training Centre, the Computer Training Centre, the Financial Law Training Centre and the Self-taught Education Students’ Examination Centre. With the Guangzhou central campus and the Zhaoqing campus area, the university occupies an area of 164 acres (1000 mu) with the construction acreage of 310,000 square metres. The main campus locates in Longyandong Tianhe District of Guangzhou, contiguous to South-China Botanical Garden and Longyandong Forest Park and Zhaoqing campus is right on the side of the beautiful Star-lake.The campuses are well-equipped and have comfortable learning environment.The university is well-equipped with every necessary facillities for teaching, living, recreational and sports activities, having over 20 professional laboratories, among which the Financial lab was awarded the honor of the Demonstration Teaching Lab Center of Guangdong Province. Their ready academic services include the simulated bank, the simulated security exchange, the financial lab, the international business lab, the electronic commercial lab, the accounting lab, the insurance lab, the business English lab, language labs, the computer centre, multi-media classrooms, etc. The university has a big library, with more than 1,200,000 books, 210, 000 electronic reference materials and over 1000 kinds of journals and magazines, which serve as the nexus for learning. The university has also set up the Guangzhou Monetary and Financial Museum, which is the largest one of its kind in South China. University Faculty
For the time being, the total staff members reach as many as 1200, among which more than 800 are full-time teachers, including over 300 professors and associate professors and more than 200 teachers with doctor’s degree. In addition, many famous domestic and foreign scholars and professional experts are engaged as guest professors. Scientific Research
The university has always strived to develop its academic research and set up many research institutes, such as the Institute of Finance in South China, the Institute of Insurance, the Institute of Labour and Human Resource, the Institute of Accounting and Auditing, the Institute of Business Administration, the Institute of Regional Economy, the Institute of Law, the Institute of Computer Science and Technology, etc. The faculty has achieved a lot in scientific and academic research, winning 29 national and provincial scientific research projects, over 20 municipal-level research projects and 36 research awards. The faculty has published more than 2,000 academic papers, over 50 of which have been listed in the authority academic journals like Economic Research, Financial Research, Insurance Research, World Economy and Chinese Soft Science. The university lays lasting emphasis on international cooperation and exchange, having established very good communication and cooperation with dozens of Asian, American, European, Australian and African universities in the modes of students’ field training, occupational training, 3+1 and 2+2 students exchange. With the development of these programs, the campus international academic atmosphere was formed and the sense of international exchange among teachers and students was strengthened. In October 2011, GDUF was approved by the Academic Degree Committee of the State Department and Ministry of Education the training institute for Master’s Degree of Finance, fresh graduates shall be admitted in 2012.
