๐ Mid-Autumn nights at Yuyuan Garden are pure Chinese romance.
Save this for an evening of lanterns, traditional music and a centuries-old moonlit ritual in the heart of Shanghai.
The historic Wu region has a Mid-Autumn custom known as zou yueliang, or โstrolling under the moon.โ Women would dress in their finest, head out together and spend the night walking beneath the full moon until dawn.
Yuyuan Garden is bringing that tradition back to life. Singers dressed as Yue Niang, or โMoon Maidens,โ lead visitors through the lantern-lit grounds before gathering to honor the moon and pray for good fortune.
