The origin of the word “economy” can be traced back to the Greek word oikonomia, which in turn is composed of two words: oikos, which is usually translated as "home" or “household”; and nemein, which is best translated as “management and dispensation.”

The idea of an economy is rooted in managing one's home.

Our modern-day systems have lost touch of this orignial intent. In contemporary economics, profits drive companies forward regardless of the externalities. In ancient economic theory, an action is only considered economically rational when taken towards a praiseworthy end.

Greek writers believed humans lived in a world of natural abundance, while today we are constantly told that there are not enough resources to go around for all of us.

For Ancient Greeks this materialized into an economy that created the 'good life' for land-owning male citizens, a blind acceptance of slavery as well as demeaning attitudes towards woman. So, let's only give credit when due.

🌎 Let's get back to creating an economy that cares for our home, our planet, our people and diversity.

🌎 Let's stop chasing an illusion of wealth. Real wealth comes from life, from our biodiversity and seeds, our soil and our land, our water and clean air, our food and our health. We gain wealth by caring for the earth, rejuvenating her bounty through our care.

🌎 In the circular economy we give back to society. Wealth is shared. Wealth circulates.
