Agua Viva is a natural reserve in the upper foothills of the Andes. It launches the creative hormones and facilitates contemplation.
It is strategically located in Los Farallones de Cali National Park, in the western mountain range that runs parallel to the Pacific Coast of Colombia. “Agua Viva” means “living water,” and it was chosen as a name because of the numerous water springs on the land. Río Pance, it’s northern limit, gushes past it, creating the background music of day and night. The lofty Farallones frame the western
view, illuminated like gold by the rising sun and silhouetted against hues of red, purple and orange rays reflected off the Pacific Ocean. At 4120 meters of elevation, Pico Pance and its neighboring peaks fill the heart with romance. Agua Viva is immediately below the tributary of the Río Pato, a stream with spectacular waterfalls and home to the luscious Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, the Red Crested Ant Tanager and Torrents Duck The reserve sits at elevations rising from1700 – 2100 meters in a tropical moist forest that is inhabited by a multitude of living things of the five kingdoms, ranging from anaerobic species, fungi and plants, through crustaceans, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals—as well as spirits and legends. The reserve is a project of reforestation and land-use re-designation. Lumbered for its hardwoods over a century ago, it was later used as a coffee farm as well as cattle grazing. It has been in a process of regeneration for several decades, with native hardwoods re-introduced systematically for twenty years. Agua Viva is a lush environment that provides a rustic setting ideal for doing biological, environmental and sociological research. Located less than an hour away from Cali—a city of nearly 3 million people—and only 2 km. from the town of Pance (with close to 1000 folks), it is set in a community undergoing the changes that characterize the threat of global warming as well as the gifts of generational changes in consciousness. There are families who annihilated forests two generations ago, farmed during last generation and serve as forest guards and guides today, rediscovering their indigenous heritage. This farm-gone-wild is an ideal place to get away from modern Western civilization, to forget the rat race, and to develop a completely new perspective of life on Earth. It is romantic, adventurous, potentially dangerous and definitely spiritual. Come help construct a bahareque cabin, build a nature path, cultivate a garden or work with local campesino children. Or just enjoy birding, hiking, meditating and hearing the rushing river. One of the ideas I’m contemplating is the offer of a time-share option for a couple of weeks of the year, over a period of ten years, in exchange for work on a cabin. You would get to use the cabin you helped to build, for years to come! Two rainy seasons correspond to the Spring and Fall of the northern hemisphere. Two dry seasons correlate to the Summer and Winter months.
In Colombia, too. Everywhere the cartels go, their money laundering wreaks destruction, of people, of forests, of farmland, of social order... American co***ne addicts are to blame, because they create the demand.

No queremos desilusionar a nuestros hijos. No queremos que se comparen con los hijos del vecino (también endeudado).
