🌊⚠️ ADVERTENCIA PREVENTIVA POR INCREMENTO DEL OLEAJE
GUARDAVIDAS COSTA BALLENA LIFEGUARDS

🌊⚠️ OCEAN SAFETY ADVISORY – INCREASING SWELL
GUARDAVIDAS COSTA BALLENA LIFEGUARDS 🇨🇷
October 8–12, 2026
📍 From Playa Dominical to Playa Ventanas, Costa Rica
Guardavidas Costa Ballena Lifeguards would like to inform residents, tourists, swimmers, surfers, and fishermen about an increase in ocean swell along our coastline.
Marine forecasts indicate more energetic ocean conditions over the coming days, with stronger wave sets and potential rip currents. Extra caution is recommended throughout the weekend.
🌊 EXPECTED OCEAN CONDITIONS
- Thursday, October 8: 1.1–1.5 m — Increasing swell.
- Friday, October 9: 1.2–1.8 m — Stronger wave sets expected.
- Saturday, October 10: 1.3–1.8 m — Increased ocean energy and spring tides.
- Sunday, October 11: 1.4–1.8 m — Continued strong swell and high tides.
- Monday, October 12: 1.2–1.6 m — Remain alert to changing conditions.
These figures are forecast estimates of offshore wave conditions, not breaking wave heights. Actual conditions may vary between beaches.
🏊 SWIMMERS AND BEACH VISITORS
Avoid entering the ocean when strong waves or dangerous currents are present. Always respect beach warning flags and follow lifeguards' instructions.
🏄 BEGINNER AND INEXPERIENCED SURFERS
We strongly recommend avoiding the ocean when conditions exceed your surfing abilities. Larger waves and powerful rip currents can create dangerous situations, even for experienced surfers.
🎣 SPECIAL WARNING FOR FISHERMEN
We urge everyone planning to fish from the rocks at Rocas de Amancio and Punta Achiote to exercise extreme caution.
Powerful waves can suddenly reach exposed rock platforms and sweep people into the ocean.
We strongly recommend avoiding fishing from these exposed rocky areas while hazardous swell conditions persist.
⚠️ IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDER
The ocean may appear calm between wave sets. However, larger and more powerful waves can arrive unexpectedly.
Never underestimate the strength of the ocean.
🚩 Respect beach warning flags and lifeguard instructions.
📞 IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, CALL 9-1-1.
