🇬🇭🇨🇺 HONOURING THE LEGACY OF OSAGYEFO DR. KWAME NKRUMAH IN HAVANA

On Monday, 21st September 2026, I had the honour of joining the commemoration of the legacy of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah here in Havana, Cuba, marking a day of remembrance and reflection on the enduring impact of his life and ideas on Ghana, Africa and the wider Pan-African movement.

In my address as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ghana to the Republic of Cuba, I reflected on the remarkable legacy Dr. Nkrumah left behind — a legacy that extends beyond Ghana’s independence to the broader pursuit of African unity, self-determination, dignity and development.

I also reflected on the historical significance of Ghana-Cuba relations. Ghana and Cuba established diplomatic relations in 1959, and the relationship has, over the decades, developed into cooperation in areas including education, healthcare, culture and human-resource development.

For me, commemorating Dr. Nkrumah in Havana carries a special meaning. His vision connected the destiny of Ghana with the destiny of Africa, while his engagement with the wider world helped establish Ghana as an important voice in the struggle for African liberation and international solidarity.

As we remember him, I believe our responsibility is not only to celebrate his history but also to reflect on the lessons his generation left for those of us entrusted with the responsibility of serving Ghana and Africa today.

May the memory of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah continue to inspire thoughtful leadership, national service, African cooperation and a commitment to the advancement of our continent.

May we remember. May we reflect. May we continue to build.

Today, 21st September 2026, we remember Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first Prime Minister and first President, whose leadership was central to Ghana’s independence and whose ideas contributed significantly to the Pan-African movement.

On this day, we reflect on his enduring vision for a sovereign, united and progressive Ghana, as well as his commitment to African unity and continental development.

May the values of service, courage, unity and dedication to national development continue to inspire generations of Ghanaians.

May we always remember. May we continue to build.

Today, we celebrate the birth of our Republic and honour the vision, sacrifice and resilience of the generations who laid the foundation for our nation's democracy, unity and independence.

As we reflect on our journey, may we remain steadfast in our commitment to peace, patriotism, integrity and national development. Together, let us continue to build a stronger, more prosperous Ghana for present and future generations.

🇬🇭🇨🇺 A JOURNEY OF FRIENDSHIP: FROM PARLIAMENT TO DIPLOMACY
On Thursday, 3rd March 2022, while serving as Special Aide to the Rt. Hon. Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana, I had the privilege of participating in a courtesy call by H.E. Annette Chao García, then Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Ghana, on the Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin at Parliament House, Accra.
The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Ghana and Cuba, built over decades on the principles of mutual respect, solidarity and shared development.
During the engagement, the Rt. Hon. Speaker underscored the importance of women's empowerment as a cornerstone of national development, emphasizing that Ghana's progress depends significantly on investing in the education, leadership and capacity-building of women.
The Speaker also paid glowing tribute to the resilience and achievements of the Cuban people, acknowledging Cuba's remarkable contributions in the fields of healthcare, education, scientific research and technical training, despite the many challenges the country has faced over the years.
As part of the discussions, I highlighted Cuba's invaluable support to Ghana and the African continent, particularly in healthcare, education and human resource development. I noted that Cuba's enduring friendship and solidarity deserve to be reciprocated through stronger cooperation and mutual support between our nations.
The meeting also explored areas of mutual interest, including the Mosquito Project, an initiative aimed at combating malaria in Ghana through Ghana-Cuba collaboration, as well as the invaluable contribution of Cuban medical professionals and educational opportunities that have benefited countless Ghanaians over the years.
Looking back today, this engagement holds even greater significance as I now have the distinct honour of serving as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ghana to the Republic of Cuba. It serves as a reminder that diplomacy is built over time through meaningful relationships, mutual respect and a shared commitment to the progress of our peoples.
I remain committed to deepening the historic ties between Ghana and Cuba and advancing our partnership for the benefit of both nations.

🇬🇭 HONOURING THE LEGACY OF GHANA'S FOUNDER

On Sunday, 22nd September 2024, I had the privilege of serving as Guest of Honour at the First Joint Sitting of Both Chambers of Youth Impact Parliament - YIP Ghana, held at the HTU SRC JCR Hall, Ho, in my capacity as Patron of Youth Impact Movement. At the time, I was also serving as Chief of Staff to the Rt. Hon. Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana.

During my presentation, I delivered a lecture on the historical contributions of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, tracing his leadership journey and highlighting the pivotal role he played in Ghana's struggle for independence. I also explained the historical and constitutional basis for recognising Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as the Founder of the Republic of Ghana.

It was inspiring to engage with the young parliamentarians as they deliberated on national issues and demonstrated their commitment to democratic governance, leadership and civic responsibility.

As Patron of Youth Impact Parliament, I remain committed to nurturing informed, ethical and visionary young leaders by promoting civic education, historical awareness and meaningful participation in Ghana's democratic process.

Our history is our identity, and understanding it is essential to building a stronger future for our nation.

🇬🇭 MENTORING THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS

On Sunday, 18th February 2024, I had the honour of attending the Seventh Parliamentary Sitting (Second Sitting of the Second Session) of the Third Parliament of Youth Impact Parliament Ghana (YIP) at the Ho Municipal Assembly Hall in my capacity as Patron of Youth Impact Parliament, a role I continue to cherish.

The sitting, presided over by the Rt. Hon. Jones Amegashie-Viglo, Speaker of the Third Parliament of Youth Impact Parliament, brought together young parliamentary leaders committed to promoting democratic values, ethical leadership and youth participation in governance.

I was delighted to join my distinguished colleagues, Hon. Benjamin Kpodo, Member of Parliament for Ho Central, and Hon. Wisdom Kobena Woyome, Member of Parliament for South Tongu, as Guests of Honour. At the time, I was also serving as Chief of Staff to the Rt. Hon. Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana.

Addressing these young leaders was both inspiring and encouraging. As Patron, I remain committed to mentoring and supporting Youth Impact Parliament in its mission to nurture competent, ethical and service-oriented young leaders who will contribute meaningfully to Ghana's democratic development.

Investing in young people today is an investment in a stronger, more prosperous Ghana tomorrow.
