Tributes to Hugo Chavez in Havana
On the occasion of the 7th Anniversary of the death of the Venezuelan former President, Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias, different tributes were carried out in Havana. The first one was on March 4th, 2020, at Casa del ALBA Cultural, and the second one on March 5th, 2020, at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the People.
Both ceremonies were attended by H.E. Adan Chavez Frias, Ambassador of Venezuela to Cuba, who thanked the eternal support provided by Cuba to the Venezuelan people; as well as the infinite manifestations of love to his late brother Commander Hugo Chavez.

Wreath laying ceremony for Independence of the Dominican Republic
On February 27th, 2020, Ambassador Walter participated in two wreath laying ceremonies on the occasion of the National Day of the Dominican Republic. The ceremonies were presided over by H.E. Bolivar Marte Nuñez, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic; officials from MINREX and ICAP; and members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Cuba.

Meeting of Caribbean Ambassadors with the Ambassador of Slovakia
On February 26th, 2020, Ambassador Walter attended a meeting that was organized and hosted by the Ambassador of Slovakia, H.E. Roman Hostak, for the Caribbean Heads of Missions in Cuba, at the Hotel Club Bravo Arenal.
The purpose of the meeting was to introduce four cutting edge Slovakian technologies to Caribbean Ambassadors, in order to convey such information to their respective countries. These technologies were related to wastewater treatment, oil filtration, fertilizers’ production from birds’ feathers and an aerial transportation called Skyway.

Opening ceremony of the Commercial Fair of the Habanos Festival
As part of the 22nd Habano Festival, its Commercial Fair was inaugurated on February 24th, 2020, with participants from various parts of the world. The ceremony was presided over by Ana Teresita González Fraga, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment of Cuba; officials from Habanos S.A., members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Cuba and invited guests.
With 84 stands and almost 950 square meters of exhibition space, exhibitors from countries such as Germany, Mexico, Italy, Spain, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica and Colombia participated in the Fair.

Photographic exhibition dedicated to General Sandino
The Ambassador of Nicaragua to Cuba, H.E. Luis Cabrera, opened a photographic exhibition entitled “General Sandino in 21 pictures” (El general Sandino en 21 Fotos) at the Raul Corrales Gallery in Old Havana on February 21st, 2020. The activity was attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, representatives from MINREX and invited guests.
Ambassador Cabrera addressed the audience to welcome them to the exhibition, which was the first of its kind in Cuba, and thanked them for sharing this important moment with him.

Meeting on the 4th Latin American and Caribbean Forum on Sustainable Development
On February 20th, 2020, Ambassador Walter, together with representatives of the Latin American and Caribbean community in Havana, gathered at the Protocol House of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment (MINCEX) in order to analyse important aspects of the 4th Latin American and Caribbean Forum on Sustainable Development that will be held in Havana from March 28th to the 31st, 2020.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister of MINCEX, Inalvis Bonachea, presented information on the Forum and affirmed that Cuba will host the event as President Pro-Tempore of the 37th Period of Sessions and of the South to South Cooperation Committee of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

Farewell ceremony at Hotel Nacional de Cuba
On February 19th, 2020, Ambassador Walter attended the farewell ceremony for H.E. Sandra Geraldine Alvarado, Ambassador of El Salvador, who concluded her mission in Cuba in February, 2020. The ceremony was presided over by the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, H.E. Luis Cabrera Gonzalez, and attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Cuba.

Signing of condolence books at the Embassy of Mozambique
Ambassador Walter signed two condolence books that were displayed at the Embassy of Mozambique; one for the death of the National Hero of that country, H.E. Marcelino Dos Santos, on February 18th, 2020, and the other for former Prime Minister, H.E. Mario Fernandes de Graca Machungo, on February 24th, 2020.

Wreath laying ceremony by the Embassy of Guyana
On February 17th, 2020, Ambassador Walter attended a wreath laying ceremony on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and to pay tribute to H.E. Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham, its founder father.
The ceremony was held at the Caribbean Heroes Park in the presence of the Ambassador of Guyana, H.E. Abdool Halim Majeed; officials from MINREX and members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Cuba.

Farewell lunch for the Ambassador of El Salvador
On February 12th, 2020, Ambassador Walter organized a farewell lunch at San Cristobal Restaurant for his colleague, H.E. Sandra Geraldine Alvarado, Ambassador of El Salvador, who concluded her mission in Havana in February, 2020.
Our best wishes and eternal gratitude to Ambassador Alvarado for all the joint work that we accomplished together in Havana.

Opening of the International Book Fair of Havana
On February 6th, 2020, Ambassador Walter attended the opening ceremony of the 29th International Book Fair of Havana, which was held at its usual venue, the Fortress of San Carlos de la Cabaña. This year’s edition had the Socialist Republic of Vietnam as the guest of honor; and was also devoted to historian and essayist Ana Cairo, who died last year, and playwright Eugenio Hernandez Espinosa.
The ceremony was attended by Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, President of the Republic of Cuba; Esteban Lazo Hernandez, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power; Alpidio Alonso, Minister of Culture and Truong Thi Mai, member of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Other participants included members of the Vietnamese delegation, members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Cuba and other invited guests.

Condolence book opened at the Embassy of Kenya
On February 5th, 2020, Ambassador Walter signed a condolence book that was displayed at the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya on the occasion of the death of H.E. Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, former President of the African country.
