Dads’ mental health matters - and it’s time the UK caught up.
Right now, there’s no mental health screening tool in the UK designed specifically for fathers during pregnancy and the first two years after birth. Most services still use questionnaires created for mums - even though we know dads often experience mental health challenges differently.
A new research study is testing whether the PAPA Scale - a father-focused mental health questionnaire used internationally - could work well here in the UK.
This could be a big step towards better, earlier support for dads during the perinatal period.
The study is being carried out as part of a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and could help shape how fathers’ mental health is identified and supported in the future.
Because for every baby, their dad's wellbeing matters. 💙
