Join us for a discussion with the national Chairperson and Deputy Secretary-General of KMU (Kilusang Mayo Uno/May First Movement)!

When? 18 June 2026, 18:00-20:00
Where? TU Berlin Room EB 202
Straße des 17. Juni 145, 10623
Registration: https://forms.gle/m4wSDSpatVjtwJFS7

Program:
6pm - Presentation from KMU
7pm - Moderated discussion with KMU and IKA Berlin

Established on May 1, 1980, during the dark years of the Ferdinand Marcos dictatorship, KMU is one of the largest labor union confederations in the Philippines and an affiliate of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC). Today, it encompasses 9 labor federations that organize workers across the industrial, service and agricultural sectors.

KMU is an independent labour center promoting genuine, militant and anti-imperialist trade unionism. It is genuine because it recognizes the struggle between labor and capital and upholds the legitimate interests of the working class; militant because it relies on the workers’ collective struggle in defending trade union and democratic rights; and anti-imperialist because it seeks to end imperialist domination and control over the Philippines.

Following their presentation, the KMU members will be joined by a member of IKA Berlin (Initiative kämpfender Arbeiter:innen) for a discussion. IKA is a collective of workers across sectors in Berlin that supports strike movements and labor actions, guided by the belief that collaboration across sectors is necessary to enable workers to fight for their rights and build class consciousness.

Denounce the Senate Conspiracy! Arrest Bato dela Rosa! Impeach Sara Duterte!

Like a thief in the night, the Senate coup that replaced Senate President Vicente Tito Sotto III with Senator Alan Peter Cayetano earlier today is a shameless and despicable maneuver that lays bare the Duterte bloc's desperate grip on power. It is no coincidence that this power grab unfolded on the very same day that the House of Representatives moved to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte. Cayetano, a political ally of the Duterte family, is now set to preside over the impeachment court. This is brazen self-serving political manipulation.

Senator Bato dela Rosa, who had been absent from Senate sessions since November 2025 amid legal pressures tied to the Duterte drug war, suddenly resurfaced today to cast the decisive vote in the coup against Senate President Sotto. The ICC has now confirmed that the arrest warrant against dela Rosa is a formal ICC document, issued confidentially under seal by Pre-Trial Chamber I on November 6, 2025. Rather than face justice, dela Rosa used the Senate floor as a shield. Newly installed Senate President Cayetano approved a motion to place dela Rosa under Senate protective custody, drawing no objections from senators aligned with the chamber's new majority bloc.

By not allowing the NBI to arrest dela Rosa, the Senate is effectively protecting a fugitive who is wanted for crimes against humanity. As PNP chief, dela Rosa spearheaded Oplan Tokhang which led to the thousands of indiscriminate killings, particularly of those coming from urban poor communities.

This Senate coup and hostage drama, as we have watched unfold through live broadcast, exposes the bankrupt political system that protects politicians guilty of corruption, plunder, and grave human rights abuses. They remain unaccountable for their crimes while holding powerful positions in our government. The Senate must not be used as a sanctuary for fugitives, nor as a tool to derail justice.

We denounce this Senate conspiracy! We demand justice and accountability! The Senate must not be used to further delay Sara Duterte's impeachment or obstruct Bato dela Rosa's arrest.

We must protest the injustice, corruption, and continuing impunity systematically produced under the bureaucrat capitalist system. Lahat ng sangkot, dapat managot!
