[English below]✨Familie kann so vieles sein – und im ersten Raum unserer Ausstellung „Beziehungsweise Familie“ wird das sichtbar und erlebbar.
🏐An der Mitmachstation könnt ihr eure eigene Familienaufstellung legen: Mit farbigen Bällen entsteht ein Bild davon, wer für euch dazugehört, wer euch prägt und welche Beziehungen wichtig sind. Jede Konstellation erzählt eine eigene Geschichte.
Zwischen den Installationen begegnet ihr außerdem besonderen Fotos von Menschen und ihren bedeutsamen Augenblicken in der Familie – Momentaufnahmen von Nähe, Wandel, Alltag und Verbundenheit. Es zeigt, wie vielfältig Familie gelebt wird.

👉Und das ist nur der Anfang: In der Ausstellung warten noch viele weitere Mitmachstationen, Perspektiven, Stimmen und Geschichten darauf, entdeckt zu werden, die wir euch demnächst vorstellen.

[EN] ✨Family can mean so many things – and this becomes clear and tangible in the first room of our exhibition ‘Family Matters’.

🏐At the interactive station, you can create your own family constellation: using coloured balls, you can create a picture of who belongs to your family, who influences you and which relationships are important to you. Each constellation tells its own story.
Between the installations, you will also encounter special photos of people and their significant moments in the family – snapshots of closeness, change, everyday life and connection. It shows how diverse family life can be.

👉And that's just the beginning: there are many more interactive stations, perspectives, voices and stories waiting to be discovered in the exhibition, which we will introduce to you soon.

Seit Jahrzehnten wird über die Zukunft der Spreeinsel lebhaft diskutiert. Vor 25 Jahren sorgte die Internationale Expertenkommission „Historische Mitte Berlin“ mit ihrem Entwurf für hitzige Debatten – und prägte die Entwicklung bis heute: vom Abriss des Palasts der Republik bis zum Humboldt Forum.

Jetzt ist Raum für neue Perspektiven:

Die Premiere vor wenigen Tagen wurde begeistert aufgenommen.
Welche Leben stecken in den Objekten im Museum?
Wer spricht durch die Vitrinen – und wer wird zum Schweigen gebracht?
Diese performative Arbeit ist Brief, Ritual und politische Beschwörung zugleich. Mit Bewegung, Gesang, Comedy, Live-Kamera und dokumentarischen Bildern entfaltet sich eine vielstimmige Erzählung über Erinnerung, koloniale Archive und die fortwährende Präsenz der Ahnen.
Im Zentrum steht auch die Geschichte von Nonqawuse – ein Wiegenlied, das zugleich Warnung, Segen und Forderung ist. Ein Lied für die Geister, nicht für das Museum.
Dear Museum! ist Liebesbrief und Abschied, Anklage und Einladung zum Zuhören – jenseits dessen, was museale Systeme oft unsichtbar lassen.
Nach The Black Circus of the Republic of Bantu entwickelt Khoza diese eindrückliche Uraufführung eigens für das Humboldt Forum.

The premiere a few days ago was met with great acclaim.
What kinds of lives are embedded in the objects within museums?
Who speaks through the display cases – and who has been silenced?
This performative work is at once a letter, a ritual, and a political invocation. Through movement, song, comedy, live camera, and documentary imagery, a polyphonic narrative unfolds—one that reflects on memory, colonial archives, and the enduring presence of the ancestors.

At its core is also the story of Nonqawuse—a lullaby that becomes a warning, a blessing, and a demand all at once. A song for the spirits, not for the museum.
Dear Museum! is both a love letter and a farewell, an indictment and an invitation to listen—beyond what museum systems often leave unspoken.
Following The Black Circus of the Republic of Bantu, Khoza developed this powerful premiere especially for the Humboldt Forum.

Das Humboldt Forum ist ein Neubau, von außen jedoch erinnert es mit seinen drei barocken Fassaden vor allem an das ehemalige Berliner Schloss. Was ist das für ein riesiges Gebäude? Wie fühlt es sich an, durch die Portale zu schreiten und die hohen Fassaden emporzublicken? Und welche anderen Vorbilder hat der Architekt Franco Stella aufgegriffen?

Gemeinsam begeben sich Kinder und Erwachsene in Kleingruppen als Forscherteams auf Entdeckungstour durch das Humboldt Forum. Sie gehen Formen, Maßen, Schmuckelementen und Materialien auf den Grund und eignen sich auf vielfältige Weise den Raum an. Spielerisch erfahren sie, welche anderen Gebäude diesen Ort vom Mittelalter bis heute geprägt haben, wie sich mit der Bebauung auch die Funktion des Ortes gewandelt hat und welche Hinweise auf diese Baugeschichte heute noch zu finden sind.

In einem Forscherbogen können sie die Ergebnisse ihrer Spurensuche und Bestandsaufnahme individuell festhalten. Je nach Altersgruppe kommen dabei unterschiedliche interaktive Methoden zum Einsatz.

The Humboldt Forum is a new building with baroque façades reminiscent of the former Berlin Palace: Forum or Palace? New or old? Together, children and adults go on a discovery tour through the Humboldt Forum as research teams. They get to the bottom of shapes, dimensions, decorative elements and materials and appropriate the space in a variety of ways. In a playful way, they learn which clues to the building’s history can still be found today.

Two bee colonies have been living on our rooftop terrace since last year, contributing to urban biodiversity.
