Yesterday's exhibition "Make Dreams Visible" at the South African Embassy in Berlin brought together guests from culture, politics, business, and civil society. Featuring powerful portrait photography by Guido Werner, the exhibition showcased the hopes, talents, and aspirations of children from the Philippi township in Cape Town through photographs and personal interviews. The project, created by photographer Guido Werner and entrepreneur Dieter Ortmann, Honorary Consul of South Africa for Thuringia and Hesse, aims to support the educational programs of the iThemba Labantu Mission. Following the success of its first exhibition in Erfurt, the initiative has already raised approximately €35,000 through donations, sponsorships, and photo sales, funding two teaching positions for children in Philippi.

The Berlin event continued this commitment, highlighting how art can inspire tangible social impact. Andries Oosthuizen, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the South African Embassy, praised the project for creating real educational opportunities. Werner emphasized his desire to give back to South Africa by making the children’s dreams visible and amplifying their voices, while Ortmann underscored education as the foundation of sustainable development. All funds raised support the work of iThemba Labantu, which provides education, creative development programs, and daily care for children in Philippi. With growing support, Make Dreams Visible aims to expand its impact and create long-term opportunities for future generations.

Following the match, FC Red Bull has shared with the embassy that the German team recognised and fully appreciated the quality, character, and presence of Mamelodi Sundowns both on and off the pitch. It was a privilege for them to experience South African football culture up close, from inspiring community initiatives in Tshwane to unforgettable moments with Mamelodi Sundowns supporters. The South Africans' passion, energy and warmth that they encountered throughout the journey made this a truly unique experience that they would cherish for years to come.

Today we are pleased to welcome Albert Ibokwe Khoza and Princess Zinzi Mhlongo, who are connected to the artistic team of Dear Museum! at the Humboldt Forum in Berlin, where their work is being presented this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Dear Museum! is a contemporary theatre and performance work created under the direction of Albert Ibokwe Khoza in collaboration with Princess Zinzi Mhlongo and the African Entertainers collective. The piece engages with questions of identity, heritage, and the ways in which cultural institutions frame and display history. Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, it unfolds as a series of encounters that invite the audience to reflect on what is seen, what is remembered, and what is often left outside the museum context.

These final shows offer one more opportunity to experience the production in its full intensity, where performance, sound, and space interact in a direct and immersive way.
