Join us for Akiti The Hunter: Book signing & story time with the author Bolaji Ajayi!

Come meet Denise Ajayi Williams, also known as Bolaji Ajayi, and get your copy of the book(s) signed at Another Country Bookshop, Riemannstraße 7 on February 22, 2026 at 2:00 PM (Central European Time). There will be story time and superhero activities for the little ones!

Discover the Story of Akiti the Hunter.
In a world of constant noise, children need stories that do more than entertain—they must empower. They need tales that build not just literacy, but character. Akiti the Hunter is the result: a tale that follows a young hero on a journey of courage, curiosity, and compassion.

Please note that the space includes two staircases, one small with three steps and another one story and quite steep.

This event is free to join, however a small door donation for the volunteer run space would be greatly apprenticed. The bookshop is cash only.

To reserve your spot, visit https://akitistorytime.eventbrite.de

"Own voices" authors are writers who are members of a marginalized or underrepresented group and who write characters that share that same identity. This means that a Black author writing a story about a Black character, or a disabled author writing about a disabled character, would be considered an "own voices" author. The term emphasizes the authenticity and unique perspective that comes from lived experience.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
Core Concept:
The "own voices" movement highlights books and stories where the author's identity and the character's identity align within a marginalized or underrepresented group.
Purpose:
It aims to increase representation and visibility of diverse voices in literature, ensuring that stories about specific groups are written by people who truly understand and can authentically represent those experiences.
Beyond Representation:
It's not just about having diverse characters, but also about the author's ability to bring a nuanced understanding and lived experience to the narrative.
Examples:
A deaf author writing a story about a deaf character.
A gay author writing a story about a gay character.
An author who is also a refugee writing a story about a refugee.
:
The term is often associated with the hashtag , which is used on social media to identify and promote such books.
Not a Guarantee of Authenticity:
While "own voices" is a valuable concept, it's not a guarantee of perfect representation, as individual experiences within a group can vary widely. However, it offers a valuable starting point for readers seeking authentic and diverse narratives.

Today was the day that Sophie was born. Maybe light a candle and send a wish into the aether for her. 🤍🍀🕯️
