"العربية السعيدة أو المباركة" هذا ما أطلقه القدماء على المنطقة الغنية الرائعة الواقعة في أقصى جنوبَ شبه الجزيرة العربية التي تتمثل اليوم باليمن
بلغت مملكة سبأ الغنية بالقوافل التجارية أوج ازدهارها في الألفية الأولى قبل الميلاد على وجه الخصوص بواسطة تجارة البَخُور الثمين مثل اللبان والمر، وكذلك عن طريق بناء أنظمة الرّي المبتكرة.
أصاب مركز مدينة سبأ في مأرب وصرواح الدمار هائل منذ اندلاع الحرب. يعدّ هذا الترشيح خطوة مهمة نحو الاعتراف العالمي بهذا الموقع الهام وبذلك من أجل الحفاظ عليه، وبهذه المناسبة يتقدم معهد الآثار الألماني بالتهنئة على هذا الإنجاز العالمي.

„Landmarks of Ancient Kingdom of Saba, Marib (Yemen)" - The Sabaean sites of Marib and Sirwah were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 25.01.2023.

Arabia Felix, Fortunate Arabia - this is how the legendary wealthy region at the southern end of the Arabian Peninsula, today’s Yemen, was called in ancient times. In the 1st millennium BC, the caravan kingdom of Saba in particular achieved its prosperity through trade in precious incense such as frankincense and myrrh, but also by constructing innovative irrigation systems. Since the outbreak of war, the two Sabaean centers Marib and Sirwah have been subject to massive destruction.
The nomination is a crucial step for the worldwide attention and thus the preservation of these important sites. The German Archaeological Institute congratulates on this international award.

في الرابع من شهر آب من عام 2020 ضرب مرفأ مدينة بيروت اللبنانية انفجار هائل خلف الكثير من الضحايا ودمّر المباني السكنية والمباني العامة والعديد من المنازل ذات الأفنية التاريخية المميزة في العديد من أحياء العاصمة.
هذا ولقد أصبح الحرفيون الخبيرون بأساليب البناء التقليدية ومعالجة المواد القديمة نادرًا جدًا في لبنان، لذلك تم إطلاق برنامج تدريبي للبنائين والنجارين والحرفيين ونُفّذ التدريب على منزل (Medawwar 749) بهدف التعريف بالتقنيات التقليدية التي يحويها لمجموعة من 25 حرفيًا مهتماً. تركز التدريب على المهندسين الإنشائيين للتعريف بتقنيات بنائه التقليدية بسبب الحالة الإنشائية السيئة للمنزل.
نتقدم بالشكر الجزيل إلى وزارة الخارجية الألمانية الاتحادية - إدارة الحفاظ على التراث الثقافي لتمويل المشروع، وكذلك إلى المديرية العامة للآثار في لبنان لتقديم الاستشارات المستمرة.

On August 4, 2020, a massive explosion in the port struck the city of Beirut, Lebanon. It cost many lives and destroyed residential buildings, public buildings, and numerous Beirut's characteristic historic middle-hall houses in several neighborhoods. Craftsmen with the know-how of traditional construction methods and the processing of historical materials are now very rare in Lebanon. A training program for masons, carpenters, and metal craftsmen was launched, using the example of the house Medawwar 749 to pass on traditional techniques to a total of 25 interested craftsmen. Because of the fragile statics of the house, structural engineers are trained in the traditional building techniques of the house.
Many thanks go to the German Federal Foreign Office - Cultural Preservation Management for funding the project and to the Directorate General of Antiquities, Lebanon for constant advice. The enthusiasm of the architects and structural engineers of the "Beirut Built Heritage Rescue" Initiative and the NGOs March and IECD made the project a great success.

نقدم لكم عدد من الأفلام التعليمية باللغة العربية على التتابع.
هذا وتتناول هذه الأفلام العمل الميداني الأثري في اليمن ويمكن الاستفادة منها عمومًا في حقل الآثار العملي
مقدمة
تُقدّم هذه الأفلام فقرات تعليمية باللغة العربية حول تقنيات العمل الميداني الأثري الأساسية، وهي موجّهة للآثاريين والباحثين اليمنيين المهتمين بعلم الآثار في مناطق جنوبي الجزيرة العربية. هذا وتهدف هذه الأفلام التي تم تصويرها بالتشاور مع الهيئة العامة للآثار والمتاحف في اليمن إلى دعم البحث الأثري والمساهمة في الحفاظ على التراث الثقافي اليمني. لم تسمح ظروف الحرب من تصويرهم في اليمن لذلك تم التصوير في موقع ييها (Yeha) في شمال إثيوبيا التي ظهر فيها أوائل الألفية الأولى قبل الميلاد مجتمع جديد يسمى الأثيو-سبئي (ethio-sabaean) نتيجة لهجرة مجموعات من السبئيين من اليمن الحالي إليها.
تم تنفيذ مشروع الفيلم من قبل فرع صنعاء في قسم الشرق بدعم من برنامج الحفاظ على التراث الثقافي التابع لوزارة الخارجية الألمانية.

Eight Films on Archaeological Practice in Yemen:
Introduction:
In acht arabischsprachigen Lehrfilmen werden Grundtechniken der archäologischen Feldarbeit für jemenitische Archäolog*innen und an der südarabischen Archäologie interessierte Forschende vermittelt. Die in Absprache mit der jemenitischen Antikenbehörde (General Organization of Antiquities and Museums) konzipierten Filme sollen die archäologische Forschungsarbeit unterstützen und zum Erhalt des jemenitischen Kulturerbes beitragen. Sie konnten aufgrund des Krieges nicht im Jemen, sondern am Fundplatz Yeha in Nordäthiopien gedreht werden. Im frühen 1. Jt. v. Chr. entstand hier in Folge der Einwanderung sabäischer Bevölkerungsgruppen aus dem heutigen Jemen ein neues äthio-sabäisch genanntes Gemeinwesen. Das Filmprojekt wurde mit Unterstützung des Kulturerhaltprogramms des Auswärtigen Amtes von der Außenstelle Sanaa der Orient-Abteilung umgesetzt.

يَنعي قسم الشرق في مَعْهد الآثار الألماني السيد راينَر ميشائيل بومَر (Rainer Michael Boehmer)

يؤسفنا جداً إعلان وفاة السيد راينر مايكل بومر في العاشر من شهر أيلول 2022 عن عمر يناهز 91 عامًا، والذي كان يشغل منصب المدير الأول لقسم بغداد حيث عمل على هيكلته على مدى أكثر من عقدين، كمان كان له الدور الأساسي في دفعه باتجاه أن يصبح اليوم قسم الشرق.
درس السيد ر. م. بومر علم آثار الشرق الأدنى في جامعة برلين الحرة بين عامي 1952 و 1961 مع أنطون مورتغات (Anton Moortgat)، ولا تزال أطروحته الدكتوراه الموسومة "تطور فن تصوير الأختام (glyptic) في الحقبة الأكادية" المنشورة عام 1964 بمنزلة المرجع ألأساسي الذي يُعتمد عليهً حتى يومنا هذا في هذا المجال.
عمل السيد ر. م. بومَر في معهد الآثار الألماني لأكثر من 30 عاماً، أولاً من عام 1965 إلى عام 1969 كمساعد علمي للرئيس آنذاك السيد كورت بيتل (Kurt Bittel)، ومن عام 1969 إلى عام 1979 كمدير علمي لقسم بغداد، ومن 1979 إلى 1993 كمدير علمي ورئيس قسم بغداد، ومن 1993 إلى 1996 كمدير أول للقسم.
هذا وقد أشرف في العراق على أعمال التنقيب في الوركاء وأنجز مشاريعه الخاصة شمالي العراق وكذلك الحفريات الإنقاذية في منطقة حمرين في تل المليحية وتل الزبيدي.
لقد أولى اهتماماً خاصاً لإنهاء دراسة حفريات الوركاء ونشرها والتي بلغت 23 مجلدا من "الحفريات في الوركاء. وكذلك التقارير النهائية التي أعدها تحت إشرافه، وفي الوقت نفسه كان محرراً لسلسلة مطبوعات (Baghdader Mitteilungen) و(Baghdader Forschungen) التي كانت تصدر عن قسم بغداد حتى عام 1996. إضافة إلى ذلك قام بنشر العديد من الدراسات تتعلق بموضوعه الرئيس حول فن تصوير الأختام واللقى الصغيرة المكتشفة في بلاد الرافدين.

في عام 1985 تم تعيينه أستاذاً فخرياً في جامعة روبريخت كارلس (Ruprecht Karls University) في هايدلبرغ.
في عام 1995 ، حصل على وسام الاستحقاق الفيدرالي ووسام الاستحقاق من جمهورية ألمانيا الاتحادية لخدماته المميزة في علم الآثار في العراق.

نحن نأسف كثيراً لفقدان زميلنا الموقر والعالم البارز في آثار الشرق الأدنى.

The Orient Department mourns the death of Rainer Michael Boehmer
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
On 10 September 2022, the former First Director of the Baghdad Department, Rainer Michael Boehmer, passed away at the age of 91. He shaped the department for more than two decades and was instrumental for its orientation to become today's Orient Department.
Between 1952 and 1961, R. M. Boehmer studied Near Eastern archaeology at the Free University of Berlin with Anton Moortgat. His dissertation on the "Development of Glyptics in the Akkad Period", published in 1964, is still a much-used reference work on the subject today.

R. M. Boehmer served for the German Archaeological Institute for more than 30 years, first from 1965 to 1969 as scientific assistant to the then President Kurt Bittel, from 1969 to 1979 as Scientific Director of the Baghdad Department, from 1979 to 1993 as Scientific Director and Head of the Baghdad Department, and from 1993 to 1996 as First Director of the Department.
In Iraq, he supervised the excavations at Uruk-Warka and carried out his own projects in northern Iraq as well as in the emergency excavations in the Hamrin area at Tell Imlihiyeh and Tell Zubeidi.
The final study and publication of the excavations in Uruk was his special concern; 23 volumes of „Ausgrabungen in Uruk-Warka. Endberichte“ were produced under his supervision. At the same time, he was editor of the publication series "Baghdader Mitteilungen" and "Baghdader Forschungen" of the Baghdad Department until 1996. In addition he published several monographs on his main topics, the glyptics and small finds of Mesopotamia.

In 1985 he was appointed honorary professor at the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg.
In 1995, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his special services to the archaeology of Iraq.

We mourn the loss of an esteemed colleague and outstanding representative of Near Eastern archaeology. We will hold the memory of Professor Dr Rainer Michael Boehmer in high esteem.

في ذكرى الدكتور عبد الأمير الحمداني
1967-2022
ينعى قسم الشرق في معهد الآثار الألماني وفاة الدكتور عبد الأمير الحمداني، الباحث العلمي، والذي عمل في الهيأة العامة للآثار والتراث، ثم تسنم منصب وزير للثقافة والسياحة في جمهورية العراق بين عامي 2019 و2020.
لقد كرس نفسه للبحث العلمي والحفاظ على التراث الأثري في العراقي بحماس كبير ومعرفة عميقة، كما عمل على تطوير العلاقات الدولية.
درس عبد الأمير الحمداني علم الآثار في جامعة بغداد وحصل على الدكتوراه من جامعة ستوني بروك بنيويورك بأطروحة بعنوان "دول الظل: قوة الآثار في الأهوار في جَنُوب بلاد ما بين النهرين"، والتي لفتت اهتمامه البحثي الخاص في المواقع الأثرية المهملة في الأهوار.
يفقد اليوم علم الآثار العراقي عالماً منفتحاً ومبتكراً........

In memoriam Abdelamir al-Hamdani
1967-2022
The Orient Department of the German Archaeological Institute mourns the death of Dr. Abdelamir M. al-Hamdani al-Dafar, who as a scholar, staff member of the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage and between 2019 and 2020 as Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities of the Republic of Iraq had dedicated himself to the research and preservation of Iraq's archaeological heritage with great enthusiasm, knowledge and in international networking.
Abdelamir al-Hamdani studied archaeology at Baghdad University and received his PhD from Stony Brook University New York with a thesis entitled "The Shadow States: the Archaeology of Power in the Marshes of Southern Mesopotamia", which captured his particular research interest in the long-neglected archaeological sites in the marshes.
In Abdelamir al-Hamdani, the archaeology of Iraq loses an open-minded and innovative scholar. We express our deepest sympathy to his family and mourn the loss of a friend and colleague.
The Orient Department of the German Archaeological Institute will hold Abdelamir al-Hamdani's memory in special honor.

4000-year-old boat salvaged near the ancient city of Uruk:

An ancient boat, made of bitumen and not preserved organic material, was salvaged during the spring 2022 campaign of the Iraqi German Mission of the State Board of Antiquities and the Orient Department of the German Archaeological Institute, digitally documented in three dimensions, and completely recovered for further rescue and preservation. On March 23, 2022, it could be handed over to the Iraq Museum in Baghdad.

العثور على قارب عمره 4000 عام بالقرب من مدينة الوركاء القديمة:

تم إنقاذ قارب قديم مصنوع من القار والمواد العضوية الغير محفوظة في ربيع 2022 خلال عمل البعثة العراقية الألمانية في إطار التعاون القائم بين الهيئة العامة للآثار والتراث وقسم الشرق من معهد الأثار الألماني، وتم توثيقه رقمياً بتقنية ثلاثة أبعاد وتغطيته بالكامل لحفظه من الأضرار. هذا و قد تمكن من تسليمه إلى المتحف العراقي بتاريخ 23 آذار من سنة 2022.

Mit großer Trauer und Betroffenheit teilen wir den Tod unserer Mitarbeiterin Irmgard Wagner mit, die am 4. Oktober nach kurzer, schwerer Krankheit verstarb.

بكثير من الحزن وفائق الأسف ننقل لكم خبر وفاة السيدة إرمغارد فاغنر Irmgard Wagner التي توفيت في الرابع من شهر أكتوبر الجاري بعد معاناة قصيرة من مرض عضال.
توظفت السيدة ارمغارد فاغنر كمصورة في قسم الشرق من معهد الآثار الألماني وكان موعد تقاعدها سيكون في نهاية سنة 2021 لكنها فارقتنا مبكراً وبشكل ومفاجئ.
كانت إرمغارد فاغنر Irmgard Wagner مصورة فوتوغرافية تعمل بالجسد والروح كما كانت متعددة المهارات في تنفيذ ما يتطلب منها في إطارهذه الوظيفة في قسم الشرق ضمن مجال عمل غير متجانس وأحيانًا صعب. أكملت تدريبها كفنية معمل تصوير في أنسباخ حيث موطنها الفرانوني. هذا وقد أكملت دراستها في برلين في جامعة العلوم التطبيقية للبصريات وتكنولوجيا الصور (SFOF) وحصلت على الثانوية في مدرسة Peter-A.-Silbermann-Abendschule. تبع ذلك العمل كمصورة في أرشيف الدولة السري للتراث الثقافي البروسي (GStA PK) وفي أرشيف الفن والتاريخ (AKG) قبل أن تقرر تولي الوظيفة العملية في معهد الآثار الألماني. رافقت العديد من المشاريع البحثية لقسم الشرق في الموقع ووثقت الاكتشافات والنتائج بصبر كبير وإبداع لا يكل. قامت بتحسين ما كان مرغوبًا تقنيًا بإبداع في ظل أصعب الظروف في مواقع البحث البعيدة، وبالطبع، كانت معداتها دائمًا مرتبة ومجهزة جيدًا. كان لديها نظرة ثاقبة في تصوير تفاصيل القطع الأثرية لدينا وفي نفس الوقت تمتعت بسلوك محبب مع مضيفينا وأطفالهم. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، وبفضلها تم توثيق المناسبات والأحداث البارزة في قسم الشرق وفي المعهد بشكل عام بشكل دقيق وواضح. تشهد على ذلك الصور التي التقطتها والتي يتجاوز عددها الآلاف وتعد كنز توثيقي لقسم الشرق بكل ما تعنيه الكلمة. ستبقى من خلالهم إرمغارد فاغنر Irmgard Wagner حاضرة دائمًا بيننا.
بقي مجال التصوير الفوتوغرافي في قسم الشرق في الواقع لسنوات عديدة بيد امرأة واحدة اسمها إرمغارد فاغنر يواجه العديد من التحديات والمتطلبات. فكان لابد من العناية بأرشيف الصور القديم من الزجاج والمسودات Nitrat-Negative التي كانت تفقد اللون مع الزمن ويتوجب المحافظة عليها، فكان من الضروري مراقبة الأرشيف المصور باستمرار، ولابد من إدخال تكنولوجيا المعلومات المفيدة ومتابعتها على الدوام. كانت معدات التصوير المناسبة متوفرة دائماً لدعم النشر في القسم من خلال معالجة الصور الخاصة بهم أو توجيه الطلاب الشباب من جميع انحاء العالم في هذا المجال والإجابة على استفساراتهم ومنح حقوق االنشر والملكية المناسبة. قامت إرمغارد فاغنر بتدريب المتخصصين على خدمات الإعلام والمعلومات في مجال خبرتهم، وأشرفت على عدة أجيال من الطلاب المساعدين كما قامت بصبر على تعليم جميع الموظفين على أساسيات التصوير الفوتوغرافي والمعالجة الرقمية الهادفة والأرشفة المنهجية.
لقد افتقدنا زميلتاً وصديقًة محبوبة للغاية ودودة وعاطفية، كانت مجتهدة ونشيطة ومثابرة وامتاز عملها بالاحتراف. نشارك عائلتها وأصدقائها الحزن وسيبقى ذكرى إرمغارد فاغنر Irmgard Wagner في عقولنا.

In besonderer Anerkennung der Forschungen und der langjährigen Leitung der Orient-Abteilung des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts erschien die Festschrift für Ricardo Eichmann „Klänge der Archäologie“, herausgegeben von Claudia Bührig, Margarete van Ess, Iris Gerlach, Arnulf Hausleiter und Bernd Müller-Neuhof. 49 Autoren zeigen mit ihren Beiträgen die vielfältige Vernetzung und Forschungsthemen auf, in die Ricardo Eichmann eingebunden ist.
