Apfelwein, also known as Ebbelwoi, Äppler or Stöffsche, is a true regional icon in the FrankfurtRheinMain area and has even been recognised as part of the region’s cultural heritage. Made from fermented apple juice and sourced from local orchards, this traditional c***r is especially popular in and around Frankfurt. You’ll find it served in “Geripptes” glasses and poured from a traditional Bembel jug in cosy taverns, many of which make their own. Whether enjoyed neat or with sparkling water, Apfelwein is a must-try when visiting the region. Just don’t ask for it mixed with lemonade unless you want a few raised eyebrows.

Do you want to help parents through the exciting time of pregnancy and birth? Then working as a midwife is the right job for you. In the past in Germany, midwifery was offered as a vocational training course, but nowadays it’s a dual study programme. In the midwifery programme, you study midwifery from scratch and learn about the ways in which a woman's body changes during the phases of pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding. In addition to gaining medical knowledge, you also familiarize yourself with possible complications and illnesses during pregnancy or in the first year of the child's life. The degree consists of a theoretical and a practical part and you get paid a salary. The demand for midwives is high in our region. Sounds interesting, then apply now!

Let’s celebrate German Unification! Every year on the 3rd of October, Germany celebrates the historic event of the reunification of the two states which used to be separated by the Berlin wall. After World War ll, Germany was divided for several years into the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic. In 1990 they were finally reunited. Bear in mind, that on this day most shops are closed and the majority of people don’t have to work.

You’re an empathic, reliable person who’s interested in working with people? Then we got you! Working as a nursing assistant is the perfect fit for you. During the training you learn the basics of nursing and patient care, including how to support people with personal hygiene, nutrition and mobility. A typical workday is very varied, from helping people get ready for the day to assisting with meals or supporting them with everyday activities. Depending on where you work, you may care for elderly people, patients in hospital or people who need support at home. Nursing is about much more than medical care. It’s about giving people support, dignity and a sense of security when they need it most.

A new month and a new German saying! Continuing with our series, today’s saying is all about butter. “jemandem die Butter vom Brot nehmen” literally translated as: “to take the butter off someone's bread” That’s what Germans say when somebody tries to take away their achievements or success.
