But do you know the story? Here is an introduction to some of the latest scholarly reflections currently gaining momentum

Did Joseph cook doughnuts or pancakes over a burning fire to feed Mary on Christmas morning?

Perhaps! The recipe for such Middle Eastern doughnuts definitely dates back to Ancient Greece, and one of the oldest recipes found in Cato's handbook from the 2nd century BC even tells us how to cook "globi”. Hence, it is not completely out of the question that Joseph lit a fire in front of the stable on Christmas morning to fry such greasy cakes and serve them drizzled with honey. New mothers need nourishment after all..,

Later it is told that the Crusaders tasted the delicious cakes baked in the streets of Jerusalem and Damascus and brought the idea back to Europe. From the Middle Ages onwards, we know of recipes from all over Europe.
In France, by the way, they are called nun farts...

Why did the Norse disappear from Greenland in the 15th century?

Why did the Norse in Greenland upend their settlements in the late 15th century? A new explanation refers to their culture and way of life inherited from 9th century Viking Society.

The last Norse settlements in Greenland were abandoned in the 15th century. But why did the Norse disappear from Greenland? Was the final leaving caused by climate deterioration? Hostilities between the Norse people and the migrant Inuits? The depletion of the primary export articles: walrus ivory and hides for ropes? Or the fragile communication with the wider world following the Black Death?

Archaeological excavations and scientific explorations of climate upheavals and changes in the world economic system c. 1000–1450 continue to improve our understanding of these events. Recently, a rethinking of the history of the Norse settlements points to another explanation: the cultural construction of the Norse. Old habits, originally brought from Iceland, seem to have died hard.
