Days after the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, I received H.E. Jerome Bresson, Ambassador of France to Djibouti and accredited to IGAD, as he presented his letters of credence. We discussed the evolving geopolitics of the Horn of Africa and opportunities to strengthen IGAD–France cooperation, particularly in peace and security, economic development, and regional stability.
France remains a valued partner, and we look forward to deepening our collaboration in support of shared regional goals.

Across our region, many women are transforming the lives of their families through small businesses that support livelihoods and strengthen communities.
Today in Djibouti, I handed over outdoor market umbrellas to Women Initiative Djibouti to support local women in growing their daily economic activities. Together with recent capacity-building trainings, this reflects our continued commitment to women’s economic empowerment across the region.

The Horn of Africa has the wisdom, institutions, governments, intellectuals, diplomats, and people to solve its own problems and build its own path to peace, stability, and shared prosperity.
Today in Jigjiga, I addressed the Elite Dialogue on Peace and Security in the Horn of Africa, calling for deeper dialogue and renewed regional ownership in shaping our shared future.
At a time of growing global fragmentation and shifting alignments, the Horn must stand together, speak with clarity, and act with unity to secure its own peace and future.

The media is not a spectator to Africa’s transformation, it is a driving force. As digital innovation and AI reshape the landscape, they expand access to information while also risking the spread of content that erodes trust.
Today, at the Annual Pan-African Media Summit 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya I called on the media to shape narratives that reflect our realities and define our future, as a guardian of truth and a force shaping society.
At IGAD, we remain committed to advocating media sustainability and safeguarding editorial integrity across our Member States and beyond.
