♻️🌱 Big changes start with small actions.

Over the past two years, through our partnership with the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation, we have installed 29 plastic bottle bins in schools and playing fields across the island 🏫🌍

These bins help students build good habits by separating waste, keeping plastic out of our landfills 🗑️ and preventing pollution in our rivers and coastal areas 🌊💚

Together, we are creating cleaner, greener communities; one bottle at a time 🌿🤝✨

Here are the schools and locations where receptacle bins have been installed:

1. Portsmouth Secondary School
2. Convent High School
3. Wesley High School

🌿 Supporting a Cleaner, Greener Dominica 🌿

This is not simply words. We believe in taking meaningful logical action to support sustainable development and environmental protection on our beautiful island. We are partners with the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation, working together to strengthen waste management and recycling initiatives across the country.

The EU, over the last 25 years, has supported the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica’s efforts at waste management. It started with the development of the Fond Cole Landfill and provision of Technical Assistance to the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation under the 7th European Development Fund. Other donations include an excavator for all site related operations, trucks to provide daily assistance and garbage bins to residents to store waste products.

In more recent times, the focus has shifted towards tackling plastic waste, with several key initiatives supported by the EU:

Baling machine – compaction of plastic at landfill for export.

Over 20 plastic bottle receptacle bins — at Primary and Secondary Schools island wide as well as playing fields.

Transportation support - pickup of plastic bottles from schools to the landfill for baling and delivery support.

We also continue to collaborate on a plastic bottle recycling initiative in schools, empowering students to become environmental stewards and instilling the importance of recycling from an early age.

🌟 Supporting Our Seniors & Vulnerable Communities: A Gift of Care from the Office of the NAO 🤝

The Office of the National Authorising Officer (ONAO) remains committed to not only developing infrastructure but also uplifting lives in communities across Dominica. As part of continued efforts to support the most vulnerable, several meaningful donations were made to key care facilities. These institutions provide daily care and comfort to the most vulnerable of our citizens—the elderly and the physically and mentally challenged.

The Dominica Infirmary was gifted with a commercial 6-burner stove; essential supplies were donated to the Northern District Home for the Aged in Grange, Portsmouth; and the House of Hope in Délices was provided with essential supplies as well as a cable & internet package for one year. 📡💻

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff at these facilities for their dedication and service. 👏🏽

At the ONAO, we believe that progress is not just about roads and buildings—it’s about people, 👥 compassion, ❤ and building a stronger, more resilient Dominica together. 🇩🇲

This donation is our way of saying a heartfelt thank you for your commitment to environmental sustainability and inspiring the next generation to take action in the fight against plastic waste.

By working together, we’ve taken significant steps toward reducing pollution and fostering a cleaner, greener future for Dominica. Your participation has been vital, and we are excited to continue collaborating with you on this and future initiatives!

Let’s keep recycling, innovating, and making a positive impact. Together, we can create a brighter future for our schools and our planet. 🌍♻️

It is a pleasure to provide this update on the ongoing rehabilitation of the Chatwell Feeder Road.

To date, 95% of the 3,175 metres of road pavement has been completed. Five (5) out of six (6) retaining walls have been constructed, and six (6) of the eight (8) culverts are in place, along with the successful completion of a single-cell culvert crossing.

A combination of box, curb and slipper and earthen drains have been constructed to improve water flow and reduce incidence of erosion.

Additionally, water supply pipes have been relocated, where possible, to the back of the drains by DOWASCO. This strategic placement will mitigate traffic disruptions and eliminate the need for pavement cutting in the event of future repairs.

Stay tuned for further updates as we push towards completing this important infrastructure project which is expected to be fully complete by October 2024.

🌱 Two is always better than one when it comes to keeping our environment clean! 🌱

We are proud to announce the handover of two more plastic bottle receptacle bins! One has been donated to the Newtown Juvenile Football Academy (NJFA) to support our young athletes in maintaining a clean environment, and the other was placed at Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth for park users to utilise. This brings our total count to 12 bins across the island, helping to promote recycling and environmental responsibility. Let us continue working together to keep Dominica beautiful!

Special thanks to our collaborator, the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation (DSWMC), for its continued support in this venture.
