The Embassy of Malta is proud to welcome to Egypt Dr Michael Refalo, who is currently continuing his research on the historic Maltese diaspora in Egypt, following up to his book Among Others: The Maltese in Egypt – Life, Crime and Death (1860s–1923), published by Kite Group in 2021.
The Embassy has had the priviledge to accompany Dr Michael Refalo during his many visits to key sites in Cairo and Alexandria that continue to bear traces of the Maltese communities that once inhabited these cities. We also enjoyed hearing from individuals who are descended from Maltese families and who continue to cherish their family's Maltese origins and heritage.
A special thanks to Dr Refalo for his special dedication to recounting, in vivid detail, the story of this unique Maltese diaspora.
