His Excellency Ambassador Amr Hamza, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asian Affairs, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates (MFAICEE) gave a briefing to Head of Missions in Cairo recently mainly updating on the regional situation and its impact as well as measures undertaken to deescalate or mitigate the crises.

The briefing entailed a comprehensive exchange of views on the evolving regional landscape and the broader implications of ongoing tensions in the region. Deliberations focused in particular on the strategic coordination and facilitation of humanitarian assistance to Gaza, including mechanisms to ensure effective delivery and sustained access. Both sides also reviewed existing measures undertaken to manage the multi-dimensional humanitarian, security, and political impacts arising from the conflict, underscoring the importance of continued coordination and responsiveness in addressing urgent needs on the ground.

The Embassy of Malaysia in Cairo organised a talk session featuring Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Department, Ambassador Amr Hamza, which was attended by members of the ASEAN diplomatic corps, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates as well as representatives from the business community and media.

During the session, Ambassador Amr Hamza provided an overview of the current evolving situation in the region, highlighting Egypt’s diplomatic efforts to promote de-escalation amid ongoing tensions. He underscored Egypt’s commitment to maintaining regional stability through sustained dialogue and engagement with all relevant parties.

The session also served as a useful platform for an exchange of views on advancing ties between Egypt and ASEAN, both at the group level and bilaterally with individual Member States, with participants highlighting opportunities to further strengthen cooperation across political, economic, and people-to-people exchange. Malaysia proposed for the reviving of direct flight to Kuala Lumpur and Cairo including possibility for AirAsia to consider flying this route.
