DID YOU KNOW?

The first Philippine flag was sewn in Hong Kong by Marcela Agoncillo, together with her daughter Lorenza Agoncillo and Delfina Herbosa de Natividad, a niece of Dr. Jose Rizal.

As we celebrate the National Flag Days, let us learn more about the meaning behind the colors of the Philippine flag.

πŸ”΅ BLUE symbolizes high political purpose and ideals.
πŸ”΄ RED symbolizes courage, bravery, heroism, and the willingness of Filipino patriots to shed blood in defense of the country.
βšͺ WHITE symbolizes purity and peace.
πŸ”Ί The equilateral triangle was believed to be a memento of the Katipunan standard -the 3Ks of the Katipunan: Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galangan, Katipunan ng Bayan, which were sometimes arranged in a triangular manner.

As we celebrate the National Flag Days, let us honor the history, patriotism, and unity represented by our flag.

Happy National Flag Day! The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Cairo proudly joins the nation in honoring our cherished national flag.

On March 6, 1965, Presidential Proclamation No. 374 declared May 28 as National Flag Day, commemorating the first unfurling of the Philippine flag after the Revolutionary Army’s victory over Spanish forces at the Battle of Alapan, Imus, Cavite in 1898.
Later, on May 23, 1994, Executive Order No. 179 extended the celebration period from May 28 to June 12, aligning it with our Independence Day.

Together, let us celebrate the symbol of our identity, unity, and values.
