The first phase of the AfrIPI project has officially come to an end, marking five years of close cooperation between the European Union and Africa to support the creation, protection, administration, and promotion of Intellectual Property Rights across the continent.
🇪🇺 Funded by the EU and co-funded and implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office - EUIPO, AfrIPI delivered concrete impact through more than 130 activities and 8,300+ beneficiaries:
✔️ 47 capacity building events organised for African IPOs
✔️ 36 IP trainings organised for EU SMEs, with 330+ SME representatives trained
✔️ 30 IP tools implemented in African administrations
✔️ Experts from 20+ EU companies trained enforcement authorities to fight counterfeiting & online piracy
✔️ 12 legislative processes in the IP field supported
✔️ Support for the implementation of 10 regional IP instruments and international treaties
✔️ Support for 4 GI legal frameworks, 8 national GI applications, and 2 EU applications for registration

🇺🇬 As of today, the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has made its industrial design data available in the European Union Intellectual Property Office - EUIPO DESIGNview search tool. With the addition of more than 1,200 industrial designs from the URSB, DESIGNview now provides information and access to over 24 million industrial designs from 76 participating offices.
The integration of URSB's design data into is a tangible result of the EUIPO's ongoing collaboration efforts in Africa under the project, building strategic alliances with IP offices to improve data access.
